My name is John Trampush and Meredith Scot Simpson is my wife & partner. Together, along with friends, we have been building a cooperative lodge and retreat for nearly two decades now. There is still much work to do, but our home in South-central Alaska is already a wonderful place to live, and a good place to share with others interested in a simpler lifestyle of connection and focus. That’s what we’re doing now... I am a philosopher, poet, scholar and adventurer who has spent most of my 6 decades as an educator in Alaska. I love muscle-powered travel (ranging) across the wild and urban spaces of Alaska, Wisconsin (my land of birth), and many of the places in between. I also love being a student and teacher of human nature, and that is how I’ve earned my daily bread over my life. I’m a Social Studies, History and Educational Technology teacher and have explored and taught many subjects at the K-12 and university level. My heart and professional standing has centered on Alaska Studies as a primary area of collaborative teaching & learning focus. This means that I love and explore 21st.C. Alaska as much with my mind as I do with my body. I am happy to provide both urban and frontier Guiding and Transportation Services for guests of the lodge, but operate on a donations-only basis, tailored to the needs and interests of my guests. South Central Alaska is one of the most beautiful, strong, & healthy lands in the United States and the world. We live where the Cook Inlet of the north Pacific Ocean reaches deep into the North American continent and creates a wonderful eco-system. It is also where 21st C. human civilization has made an Anchorage in the wild north-west region of our continent and hemisphere. My goal in life (the pole star that I have steered by since I was old enough to start steering) has always been to find a piece of beautiful, healthy, high ground and make a good stand there. It has taken me most of a generation of scouting, pondering and learning in order to manifest that vision, but that is what our lodge and retreat are. Meredith & I are interested in sharing our love of Alaska, of wild and frontier spaces, and of the power of nature to strengthen, heal & make whole. By opening our lives and household to others interested in these things too, we are beginning a new harvest phase in our lives.
