This rustic cabin is the perfect place to unwind and relax. The tree encircled view from the back patio is well suited for letting your mind wander and there are deer and plenty of birds to hear and see as you relax. There is an easy path behind the cabin which leads up the hill into the woods of the property and it is very quiet at night for restful sleeping. Charles is a thoughtful and friendly host who is understanding and helpful when you need something. The cabin is well equipped for those who enjoy cooking for themselves. The cabin has easy access to Mountain Dale (a charming little arts town) and Ellenville (grocery stores, gas, other essential services). We really enjoyed our time here and the many beautiful hikes nearby. A compelling place to stay for those looking for solitude and rest.

No frills accommodations with everything working as it should. Clearly, the highlight is the bucolic setting as the cabin overlooks an expansive meadow (seen from most of the main windows in the house) that overlooks one of two ponds, wildflowers and daily wildlife appearances. The 9' high deck is brilliantly sunny for most of the day and enhances the expansive views. Charles is dutifully attentive and will appear only upon request. And although his house is next to the cabin, lush foliage hides it sufficiently enough where you can enjoy virtually complete solitude. All essential shopping is 10 minutes away. Larger offerings about 25 mins. away in Middletown. Convenient, too, are the natural wonders of the area many of which are in nearby Minnewaska State Park. Not to mention, a 50 minute drive will get you to Barryville, NY where canoes, kayaks and tubes are available to float the Delaware River. I would sum up my stay by saying I was 100% content, 100% of the time.

Overall a great stay at Charles's cottage. This house is a great option for anyone wanting an incredibly quiet and secluded location, sitting in the rocking chairs by the cozy wood fireplace. Charles and Tony are very kind and considerate - they even let us stay an extra night for free when a snowstorm arrived just as we were about to depart. The house is very warm in winter, the kitchen appliances worked great, and the location was amazing, an 11-acre haven of peace and quiet and beautiful vistas, esp. in autumn. Quietest place we've ever lived -- the only nearby house is Charles and Tony's, and we didn't hear one peep in 2 months. In the backyard there's a ridge where you can walk up a hill into the forest and be completely alone in nature. It's only ten or 15 minutes drive into Ellenville which has all the shopping places you need. There's also a little convenience store you can walk to just down the road. Plenty of awesome hiking spots nearby, and cool cities like Woodstock and New Paltz just an hour drive away. Guests should know (as Charles will tell you beforehand) that the Wi-fi signal from the main house is very weak and not sufficient to use for working from home or watching movies, etc. If you'll want to do that, you will have to get (and pay for) Spectrum wi-fi service with your own modem/router. This wasn't a big deal (and the service was blazing fast) and Charles kindly helped coordinate this before we arrived. Please also know that you will likely not have mobile phone service (even if you have Verizon) in the cottage. Guests should also be aware that the cottage is an older, rustic cottage, not a modern, spotless, updated place if that's what you're looking for. Charles and Tony are also wonderfully responsive if a problem arises (but also completely respectful of privacy and space) and went out of their way to make our stay great. There are 2 bedrooms, and one of the beds isn't ideal for 2 people or a very large person, so be aware of that. We would definitely stay again, particularly because of how kind and helpful Charles and Tony were, and because of the great location and incredible peace & quiet.

We had a wonderful stay at Charles' cabin. There is nothing more relaxing than sitting on the patio looking at the surrounding nature and the leaves slowly changing color in the Fall. We stayed for two months and it felt like home. Charles is very welcoming and made sure we had everything to be comfortable.
