Relaxing & Peaceful at Tui Treetops; Our refurbished 1960's bach is super comfortable and peaceful. Overlooking Mahurangi harbour and capturing the all day north-facing sun. So close to get to from Auckland City, within 40mins you are in a beautifully calm haven and a relaxed state of mind. Everything is yours to enjoy when you stay, and its an easy space to relax and just enjoy the view. But there is also plenty to do and use such as two kayaks at Jamieson Bay within a short walk from the bottom of the property in 3mins, you are having a paddle or a swim. The Bay is tidal, so you will tend to keep an eye on tide times for swimming but on a low tide the coast offers beautiful walks around the headlands of Jamieson and Opaheke to Opahi Bay - allow 30-40min walk on mostly flat rock and sandy beaches. While you can use your feet to get around Jamieson and Opahi Bay, you will need a car to get around further. Mahurangi Regional Park, also known as "Sullivan's Bay" and "Te Muri Beach" is a short 3-5min drive away and is swimmable at all tides with a wide sandy beach and parkland to play in - great for children of all ages. Puhoi is a 7min drive away and includes the infamous Puhoi Pub which is a character-filled place with its wall to wall memorabilia. The Puhoi Cheese Factory is further along the main road of Puhoi and is a great place for lunch and it has a lovely rural parkland setting. For some active relaxing, try the Puhoi River Canoe trip, this is a lifetime type trip that takes you to Wenderholm Regional Park. Another option for a Saturday morning is a 20min drive to Matakana markets and village, a hive of activity on Saturday 8am - 1pm. After the markets and village buzz, take a swim at Omaha Beach only a short 5-7min drive further past Matakana. A beautiful large beach with usually pretty good surf! On the way back from Matakana or Omaha, stop off at Warkworth for a stock-up of supermarket supplies, or make sure you remember to come well-stocked via a stop off at Silverdale or Orewa on the way up the Tui Treetops. There are no shops at Mahurangi West (and that's how we like it) so best to bring all food supplies to enjoy your whole stay. Tui Treetops has plenty of board games, large DVD/Blu-Ray collection, small selection of books and cards to while away the time, or cook up a storm in the fully kitted out kitchen. Perhaps just soak up the sunshine and watch the Tui, Kereru, and Fantail playing in the pohutukawas all day.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Tui Treetops. Mahurangi West is a wonderful location and the views from the living rooms and decking are truly amazing! We loved our morning swims before breakfast - the water down in Jamieson Bay is calm, warm and clean. It’s a pleasant walk down through gardens to the bay and there’s a swimming platform to swim out to. Tui Treetops is perfect - clean, homely, well equipped and with a comfortable bed. We loved the source of water - rainwater, so soft on skin and hair. Mahurangi West is a beautiful area and we were happy to chill out and potter around the local area. Also loved listening to the Tui birds in the surrounding trees. Good supermarkets in Warkworth and a good gas BBQ on the decking. Altogether a perfect stay and we didn’t want to leave. Than you Steve and Mel.
An absolutely dreamy spot in the trees with a stunning view. Lovely walks and feel to the area. Wish I had stayed longer.
We had an amazing weekend in this hidden oasis of serenity. Spectacular views even on rainy days. Highly recommended staycation near Auckland City.
Delighted with everything. Gorgeous view. Beach walk and kayaking nearby. Kayaks provided. Well appointed kitchen. Responsive hosts.
Had a wonderful two week stay. Firstly the view from the deck was like a picture postcard just spectacular, and the location was central between Orewa and Warkworth. The house was small clean and totally met our needs perfectly. Communication with our hosts Mel and Steve was first class and I would highly recommend this lovely hideaway to anyone.
Small and private community that is friendly and welcoming, a relaxed community vibe which makes it a lovely place to stay.
No public transport - you will need to use your feet or a vehicle to get around.

My husband and I have more recently fallen in love with the little known treasure, Mahurangi West, and now have the pleasure of owning a Bach in this beautiful part of New Zealand. We hope you enjoy what we have done to Tui Treetops to make it a stylish and comfortable wee getaway pad. I work in the Film Industry as a Line Producer and my husband is a Cinematographer. We live in Auckland with our two children... life is very busy! So, whenever possible we all nip away to Tui Treetops to decompress and recharge, which happens rather quickly and is why we love it and we hope you do too.
