This is a privately owned lodge on the edge of the Zambezi river. You’ll love our place because of the views and location, and the friendly staff. Our camp is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (although you do need to watch young children near the river's edge), and groups. Fishing on the river is great and you can expect the usual good Zambezi catches (Bream, Chesa, Tiger, Vundu, etc) The camp is self-catering, so any guests should bring their own food, drinks and toiletries.
The road to the area is long & arduous, therefore we recommend you book the maximum time. The camp has beautiful scenery, from the peaceful river in the front to the palm fringed pans at the back. A lovely team of staff welcome you. An In-house Cook, Nyamo who makes magic from your raw ingredients, cooking on an open fire for that smoked flavour, his fish is par excellence. The lodge is eco -run on a solar, super fridge + deepfreeze space. Kitchen fully stocked. Good fire pit area & splash pool. Rooms with mozi nets and linen, bring spare pillows, toilet paper mosquito coils are useful! If you are love fishing, this is a haven, fishing is good in front of camp, if you want to explore the river, bring a boat or hire the camp one. Fuel can be brought in Zambia and staff will collect From the water we saw elephant. in camp bush buck, baboons and monkeys, crocodiles + hippos. On the road wild dog, kudu. Birds hornbills, ground + Bradfields, owls , openbill stork, great white egrets
I had a great stay at Maturi Camp! The camp is set along the Zambezi in a rural corner of the country. This means an amazing landscape and spectacular wildlife. I saw elephants, impala, bush buck, baboons, monkeys, crocodiles, hippos, and many bird species - all from inside the camp. If you enjoy nature and don't mind a remote location, this is the place to be! Birdwatching is great from inside the camp. A variety of habitats can be seen depending on where you sit. I can highly recommend taking an early morning or later afternoon kayak trip upriver, to experience the Zambezi from the water. At night you'll hear the hippos come ashore to eat and all kinds of howls, growls, and chirps make it clear that there are lots of nocturnal animals around. The staff is great and can help sourcing and preparing food, organizing trips, and alerting you when elephants or other game have been spotted. Andy and family were very responsive and helpful. Thanks!
During the wet season, a 4x4 may be required.
If you need directions, we can share these.
