Our stay at Casa Eggedal was a wonderful, peaceful retreat. The surroundings are extraordinarily beautiful, with gorgeous gardens. The house is well designed for enjoying the scenery and for relaxing. The kitchen has more dishes and cooking pots/pans than I have at home. Deedle was very responsive and friendly. We loved relaxing in the pool and exploring the areas around the lake. As noted in other reviews, there are LOTS of stairs on the property, so be sure you’re up for that. We loved it and would definitely recommend a stay.

Everything was exactly as stated. The only thing to improve in the house is better ventilation on the upper bedrooms. Opening the bedroom windows solved the problem but then mosquitoes could enter. A very cheap way to solve the problem is to install screens on all the bedroom windows. Then you can have air flow and no mosquitoes.

The views are spectacular. The property landscaping is amazing but the home needs some of that level of attention in terms of upkeep. We enjoy our walks around the property and towards the dock but there is not much to do or see in Santa cruz besides visiting the restaurant Sabor Cruceño. La Iguana perdida, el Arca de Noé and holy tortilla restaurants are not very kid-friendly but they seem a great fit for adults/backpackers. You should visit or consider staying too in San Juan Laguna that has the mirador and a beautiful walkable town and Panajachel which has the amazing Reserva natural Atitlan and also the calle Santander with many stores and restaurants.
