The house is charming and feels well lived in by the family. It's nice to get to stay somewhere that is clearly quite beloved. The grounds are beautiful and somewhat the whole reason to stay there and the star of the show. The views, the proximity to the sea, and hearing the trees in the wind are all big reasons to stay here. The house is unpretentious and very comfortable while also feeling like a gem you stumbled upon. However....because nothing in this life is perfect a few things that are worth noting after spending a month here. It's not fancy, so if you want Pratesi sheets and long hot showers, probs not the house for it. I stayed here without a car and it was difficult. I wouldn't describe it as walkable to anything besides the beach. There are solutions, local tuk tuk drivers, and a lovely beach club nearby that is about a 20-30 minute walk so you can set up camp, eat, and hang for the day and return in the evening. However the region is still being set up for tourism and so is this house. It's tough to get around and if you are planning to be car free just know it will take some setting up and adjusting to make this house workable without a very limiting experience. Especially if you do not speak Italian. Also know the house is very much worth it! It is very special, and so is it's location. You just wouldn't believe how the front yard is essentially cliffs and the Adriatic sea so it's very worth taking the challenge. The owners were super communicative and quick to address any issues that came up giving them prompt attention. Otranto is a lovely town with beautiful beaches, and surrounding areas of interest and little towns to explore. It was a great home base even if it was hard to leave the beautiful setting to go do exploring.
