Villa Calera is a delightful house in the centre of Rueda, a small town with a long history and strong association with wine production. Our host was gracious and helpful in welcoming us to the house, which is traditionally furnished and which has a fine courtyard garden, ideal for sampling the local wine! Rueda is a nice town to walk around, and within easy reach of Valladolid and other interesting towns. There is no parking with the house but plenty of space to park safely on the wide street outside. If coming to Rueda for a short stay, note that most of the wineries offer cellar tours by booking only, so you might want to arrange that in advance. We found the Yllera tour interesting because it covered the modern factory as well as the dusty old cellars.

Our host was waiting for us upon arrival at the house and was very courteous. She showed us all around the place and gave us all of the information we needed for our stay. This house is a bit off the beaten path, but not far from Ribera del Duero—about 45 minutes by car to the western portion or 1:15 to the eastern part of the DO. However, it is in Rueda, the city that gives the white wine appellation its name, so if you are interested in white wines this is a great location. The house itself is very well-maintained, clean, air conditioned (though this wasn't necessary as the climate is quite nice at night,) and we loved it. In fact, in the backyard area there is an outside BBQ grill, which we used one night, and had a lovely dinner outside under the stars. If I am ever back in this part of the country for a few nights I would certainly return to this Casa Rural.
