Casa Tary is a truly idyllic location; far from the madding crowd doesn't quite prepare one for the step back in time where local fishermen cast their nets and the ladies ply their wares (fresh bread and seasonal vegetables). One should be aware that to appreciate this very special remote location one needs to have a proper off-road 4x4, especially for the last 15k, and be self-sufficient. The journey for us, from Johannesburg, took 2 days (we have small children). It was a slog but most definitely worth it for the truly special experience we all had. The children could roam free as we spent our days collecting shells, watching the crabs, and building sandcastles. Stuff memories are made of. We stayed 10 days which was about the maximum without a boat; canoes are available but after a week of walking, swimming and paddling adventure beckons one to explore further… With regard to our host, Debbie, she made herself completely available and answered all queries and then some. She made us feel most welcome and was very relaxed in sharing her family holiday home.
