A wonderful and respectable area.
Four minutes walk to the left takes you to a low price supermarket, Bónus, open 11am til 6pm. Two minutes walk to the right takes you to a cozy little shop, Bláhornið, open noon til midnight.
Alternatively, you can walk 15 min uphill for the Krambúð small supermarket, open 24/7, at the top of Skólavörðustígur near our monumental church, Hallgrímskirkja.

Fifteen minutes walk uphill takes you to our most impressive church.

Five minutes walk downhill provides street buses in all directions within the greater Reykjavík area and a few beyond (50 km). Fifteen min. walk along a few streets takes you to Reykjavík BSI bus terminal for the rest of Iceland, including the Flybus.
Parking is possible outside the door but cheaper if you park beyond next corner and free if you go a bit further (10 mins walk).
Paying is at a meter nearby:
Zone 2, ISK 150 per hour.
Zone 3, ISK 125 for the first two hours and only ISK 30 per hour after that.
Not much, especially when you look at the charging times (both zones):
09am-6pm Mon-Fri
10am-4pm Saturdays
No charge overnight
No charge on Sundays
So, zone 2 is fine for short parking but zone 3 is sensible for longer parking (over 2 hours).
As I said, zone 3 is only 2 minutes walk away, starting on next corner. And next corner beyond that, there is a free zone (10 min walk). So, charging isn't really the problem.
Be aware, that P1 (shopping streets) is most expensive (275 per hour). And if you don't pay (any zone), the fine is 3700 or even 4500 ISK!
Quite often, everything is full so that you must circulate slowly around the neighbourhood. Also, the streets are narrow and in some places the pedestrian pathways are guarded off with steel bars. Careful maneuver is required!
