The authentic-feeling of staying in a Navajo hogan is a great experience in and of itself. Richardson and his family are very hospitable and kind. That being said, I think the listing was pretty misleading. I initially felt the price was steep, but upon reading that a private guided slot canyon tour was part of the stay the price tag of $350+ per night seemed more reasonable. Both the listing and my text conversation with Richardson about the tours implied they were included. No additional fee was ever mentioned until we arrived. Richardson explained that our stay included access to the canyon, but we would have to go ourselves. This is certainly not the guided tour we thought we paid for. We ended up not going out of fear of navigating the canyons alone with our dogs, it was a huge bummer to say the least. With the tour not being included I really just cannot justify price of this stay, even with the breakfast. I also found some other things to be misleading. In one part of the listing it states firewood is included for the wood stove, which is necessary for keeping warm in the night as there is no other heating. When we arrived, enough wood was provided to get it started but we were told additional wood was $15 a bundle or we could buy more in town. The photo of the night sky in the listing is misleading as well. I also wouldn’t say I felt immersed in mother nature as the highway and large power lines were visible from the hogan. Ultimately, had the listing been clear and accurate I would have given 5 stars, but it just wasn’t. Nothing against Richardson as he was very nice, it’s just the listing needs some fine-tuning so there’s no ambiguity for the guest.

Great experience, even though it was in December the Hogan stayed warm. the tours, hospitality and experience exceeded my expectations. highly recommend

Highly recommend this specific stay! Just the location alone is an experience and with Richardson’s family hospitality it is something special! From the tour by Richardson to his mom providing a traditional Navajo breakfast it was a very special stay for both my son and I!

Wow, what an amazing once in a lifetime experience. My husband and I stayed here and loved every minute of it! We got to experience the true beauty and energy of Mother Nature. We were lucky enough to stay during a full moon as well which made the experience even better! Our guide was awesome and taught us so much about the Navajo history and traditions and went above and beyond for accommodating us and giving us a truly an amazing experience! Recommend 100%!
