60 m2 + covered terrace 20 m2. Comments:"A place like there are few." " between land and sea" , " very good bedding, furniture, etc. ", "you only hear birds singing", "spacious, bright, extremely clean» A 5* star Airbnb. A warm welcome and plenty of suggestions of places to visit and things to do. The accommodation itself is light and airy, in the countryside, yet within walking distance of Ascain. We were able to store and charge our e-bikes securely. Beautiful area and we highly recommend. The Basque Country has three faces, first its unique countryside, calm with this special feeling of eternity that it provides (like if nothing has changed since centuries), then the most well known coastal strip (40 X 5 kilometres), very busy in summer with holidaymakers, and last the Mountain. More than 20 years ago, when we had chosen this large piece of land to build our house, we were looking for exactly that balance. Close to the sea (we are sailors), but protected from the madness of tourism, traffic jams and fashion shops. We were lucky to find this place so quiet but ideally placed to live and visit the Basque Country. Retiring, the space reserved for my large office, away from home, remained free for a few years. And then we decided to arrange it to accommodate only 2 people, on a total surface (20 m2 terrace included) of nearly 80 m2. 2 people is less disruption for everyone and more space for our guests. For if there is one thing that life has taught us, it is that the greatest criterias of luxury today are Silence, light and Space. The accommodation , arranged in 2019, looks like a small loft, apparent carpentry work inspired by traditional sheepfolds. No air conditioning but wide front roofs, lots of light and shade at the same time. The large covered terrace is pleasant on sunny days as on rainy days for reading (one of our guests had time to fall in love with the chestnut tree, others saw deers) the aperitif or meals outside. The interior decoration is personal, composed in part of rare, exotic objects, brought back from our travels sailing around the World. Apart from some nice antique furniture, everything is new. According to many of our guests: "it’s better than at home!" Travellers guilty of indelicate behaviour may be asked to leave the accommodation, with the agreement of ABNB, and without any compensation.

This is a squeaky clean place in a peaceful quiet location. Jean Luc is a great host and provided many helpful recommendations.

Merci à Magali pour sa gentillesse... Merci à Jean Luc pour son suivi bienveillant, pour la qualité de ses conseils avisés, pour sa passion communicative pour sa belle region, un grand MERCI pour TOUT Malgré une météo capricieuse ( 3 jours de pluie) nous avons su nous adapter et profiter autrement de tout ce que peut offrir le Pays Basque ... il ne nous reste donc plus qu'à revenir😜 pour profiter des plages, des vagues et du soleil ☀️une prochaine fois... qui nous tarde déjà !
What a great place. We explored the Basque countryside by bike and car. Awesome cycle rides nearby and we found it safe for cycling. Jean- Luc and Marie-Christine are well travelled and made many recommendations for local experiences which we felt were incredibly valuable. The place was comfortable and great for two people. Guinness the dog is also special. We were treated with Basque baked goods and on departure very sweet local gifts which we will treasure. If Jean- Luc and Marie- Christine ever travel to New Zealand we would welcome them to our home . Roland and Valerie Quel super endroit. Nous avons exploré la campagne basque à vélo et en voiture. Que dire de ce séjour, un gite très agréable aménagé avec goût et raffinement. Sa situation est idéale entre mer et montagne en pleine nature au calme absolu. Jean-Luc est un hôte d'une grande prévenance, étant passionnés de la randonnée, nous avons eu le meilleur des guides pour préparer nos sorties et faire un bout de chemin, le temps d'échanger sur ce magnifique Pays basque. Un moment unique avec Jean-Luc et sa compagne a été de partager leurs voyages, de grands aventuriers.... Miel

The neighborhood is composed of main residences, where people live all year long and some secondary residences, mainly with very large lots, whose owners love nature and calm. There are some very nice properties, including the Xalkarra mill, among others, which has not seen wheat flour for a long time, but under which runs a nice stream that comes down from the Rhune and irrigates our neighborhood. One sees the nearby Rhune "full frame" and the emblematic property of the late Jacques Chaban Delmas, former prime minister, who chose to rest in the cemetery of Ascain. The village is 3km away. One supermarket in the village, Shopping centers Leclerc, Carrefour and Intermarché quite close (more or less 5 km). We only accept one "visitor" car, yours, one pet, and our guests respect the calm of the area. It soon becomes obvious that the singing of birds is preferred to sound disturbances. Exceptionally a second car will be able to park along the access road.

Je suis hôte AIRBNB au Pays basque, voir https://airbnb.com/h/xalkarra. Nous voyageons généralement en couple, parfois avec notre chienne Guinness. Tout le monde adore Guinness. Elle est de race indéterminée, tendance "Labrador svelte et calme". "Pointer noir du Labrador" prétendons-nous car selon le vétérinaire de la SPA, elle tiendrait de ces deux races. Nous sommes TRES soucieux de la propreté des lieux et notre chienne reste à sa place. A la maison tapis, fauteuils et canapés lui sont interdits. Elle voyage avec son coussin très confortable (Sofa à mémoire de forme, si! :), ce qui fait qu'elle n'a aucune envie d'aller se coucher ailleurs. Nous emportons ses serviettes pour l'essuyer, poils et pattes, en cas de pluie nous sommes tres vigilants. (Au Pays basque nous connaissons le Cocktail chien + pluie). Nous avons voyagé dans le monde entier et nous adorons avant tout la simplicité, l'authenticité, les contacts humains, la découverte des modes de vie régionaux et la vie à la campagne.
