Room #3 The Centerville Steamboat Inn dates back to the 1840s. The Inn is located in the center of town and has seen much history in this area. It was originally named the Centreville Hotel, later The Kennedy Hotel and now The Centerville Steamboat Inn. It was originally described as being a hotel/house where travelers traveling on steamboats on the Bayou Tech would check in for a stay. The proprietor lived on the first floor and rented rooms on the second and third floors. Room #3 is located on the second floor and is frunished with a King size bed, end tables with lamps, dresser and arm chair. You have two windows facing the front of the Inn, and one window facing west. There is a fireplace that isn't used that adds much to the atmosphere.
Decided on a whim to drive down to Louisiana’s Bayou Teche area for the first time to partake in the annual Eagle Expo and birder activities. I love staying in historical homes and hotels when I travel, and luckily this beautiful find happened to be available. Charles was so welcoming from the start! He shared fascinating historical facts and stories about the property and its various art pieces (some he actually created himself) as he gave me a thorough tour. Afterward he even offered to show me a great spot for bird watching and took the time to personally escort me there, all the while filling me in on interesting childhood memories from growing up in the surrounding area. Later that evening, Charles and his partner attended the opening birds of prey event on my suggestion, and we sat together and enjoyed the show. I felt like I made two wonderful friends that I will drive back to visit soon. I highly recommend staying in Charles’ incredible house, esp if you love birds/art/history!
We had a great stay in the Steamboat Inn. Don't expect any modern amenities, instead expect lots of character and charm. The Inn is an old house with some spacious nicely decorated bedrooms. We were able to use all the rooms in the house, but ended up using the kitchen most. The kitchen only has one induction cooktop, but together with the oven and microwave this is enough to cook simple meals. We enjoyed sitting upstairs on the landing reading our books and watching the stormy weather from the porch upstairs. In summer this porch would be a great place to watch the world go by. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Centerville is a quiet village that is unincorporated but governed by the Parish Council. The Parish President lives across the way, and the area is policed by the elected Sheriff.
We have the only Kindergarten through twelfth grade school in the Parish/County.
One gas station next door, that is run by the justice of the Peace.
The Centerville Market is just a few steps away and provides hot and cold meals and much other merchandise
For transportation, we recommend that you have your own, but if you are in a bind, just ask the hosts and we will see what we can do for you.
自我介绍
I was born and raised here in Centerville, into the family of John Robert Sr. and Eva Simoneaux Luke. I am the youngest of thirteen children. My great great great Grandfather Antoine Luke arrived in America through the Port of New Orleans in the 1820's. His son John Baptist Luke like his father was a merchant marine selling dry goods in bayou country from his steam powered boat. I have always enjoyed story telling and story lessening. Preserving historic landmarks in my neighborhood with the St. Mary landmark society. Civil war history and battle sites in the area and the Old Spanish Trail. Birds of the south. Bird watching along the coast and in the Atachafalayah basin. The history of the Chitimachy Indians their casino and community. Local seafood and Cajun restaurants. Near by Lafayette and New Orleans. Unique bayous, lakes, swamps, marshes, bays and rivers to explore and fish in. The Saloman Northrop story and trail. The Bayou Teche canoeing trail. One of only 15 such trails in the United States. Oh, and we love dogs.
