The interior of the home is totally new and made with pinewood, which gives it an amazing smell, which we needed because to be totally honest, the air in the neighborhood smelled bad, like fertilizer. A car is absolutely essential. Although this part of the island is rural, it is also quite industrial (there is a cement factory nearby), with not a lot of things like restaurants or supermarkets. Most restaurants are around 30 minutes away near Nago. The beach closest to the house is not fit for swimming or laying out. However the house is at the southern entry point for Yanbaru National Forest, which is phenomenal. Our biggest recommendation is to drive along the route from the house to Haneji Dam, also towards (タクジトンネル). Most scenic drive ever through lush forests and lakes. There is no bathtub indoors, and the outdoor bathtub doesn't have much privacy from the neighbors. Also, due to the traditional roof, there is no complete sound privacy between rooms inside the house.

Umeno-to-An is a pretty cool chance to stay in a nicely renovated old Okinawan-style house. The neighborhood is quiet, with some beautiful plants and flowers around. The outdoor bath is perfect for a bright sunny day. Sleeping, looking up at the traditional roofing gives a warm feeling, and makes you feel happy and wiser.
