What a wonderful place! If yo are looking to escape the tourist scene, relax on a private beach, and enjoy local sites, Mary’s place - Solaris - is for you. The house is easy to find by following the directions - we did a rental car - as there is only one main road that takes you away from Kingston. The roads in Jamaica are rough, so be prepared for a slower drive. (Pro tip: download offline maps and do NOT rely solely on GPS. Keep your eyes out and look for local landmarks from directions provided). The property has physical security measures and manned gated entry to the subdivision. We always felt safe! Mary and her husband were great hosts and live on site. They have two people that assist with caring for the place/grounds who were very personable and welcoming. This is a traditional style BNB, and the hosts did great making you feel welcome and providing recommendations for things to do. The property also has a small playground area for the kids, and plenty of open space for them to run around. We left our kids behind, but this is definitely a place they would have enjoyed immensely and not wanted to leave. Mary also has a guide book that you should check out. All the pictures were accurate. The beach has a reef about 30 yards from the shore, and the water was calm, comfortable (76deg F) and had minimal current - bring snorkel gear!. There are some old ruins on the beach as well that makes a great shaded spot if you want to stay out of the Sun. We also saw the Cane River falls - about 15min from the house. Challenge drive (look for the signs) but easy to get to - we did stop and ask for directions once - which they confirmed we were going the right direction. Once you get to the entrance, someone will come open the gate if it is shut so be patient. The falls were amazing. We spent an hour there had the place to ourselves most of the time. They also have refreshments/restrooms at the entrance and again, nice people. Rather than describing the rest of our trip’s excursions, go visit and enjoy Jamaica, and stay at Solaris. We highly recommend it!
