Where are you going to find a better deal than this? A whole house to yourself with a private yard, and dazzling sea views, located in the prime location, thirty steps above the swim-able beach (about 25 to 30 yards), with your own patio and yard for the price of an apartment. Sleeps four—one queen-sized bed in the main room and two single beds in the bedroom. Located on the sea in the town of Jelsa, in a pine covered area where the breeze is blowing just right during the summer months. This quaint cottage with one bedroom (with two twin beds) plus a living room with a brand new mattress and frame queen sized bed and twin size sofa-bed, and one bath (with walk-in shower) is the best place to take you away from it all. Relax to the sound and view of the sea, cicadas, birds and breathe the clean air scented by pine, lavender and rosemary. This private three room cottage offers you one of the best locations on the island with a private gated yard, a view of the sea, one bathroom and shower, a kitchen, living area and a large shaded terrace for outdoor dining. There is also an outdoor fireplace for grilling. The main room opens to a view of the sea and the bedroom has a large window facing the sea. The cottage is less than 30 meters to the sea and a 15 minute walk to the town of Jelsa and a 20 min walk to Vrboska, another fishing village. Many activities await for the outdoor or seafaring enthusiast. You can rent boats, bikes and scooters in Jelsa and there are many tours for sightseeing available. Nightlife is lively during the summer months with concerts and festivals along the port of Jelsa which includes fine dining or pizzerias and several bars and discotheques to choose from. There is a public bus offering transportation to Hvar town daily. Jelsa has the best and most beautiful beaches on the island with lots of sandy coastline for children. There are so many opportunities to explore the many hidden treasures on this island or beyond. It is just a short trip to the southern side of the island via the tunnel near the town of Pitve. Bike and kayak rental are available upon request. Some of our favorite restaurants in and around Jelsa: Me & Mr Jones, Konobo Nono (near the main church), U Smokve for vegetarian options & pizza, Hit for cevapcici (grilled meat), Skojic for pizza/seafood in Vrboska, and a must see family-owned restaurant with an amazing view/outdoor dining is Dvor Dubokovic in Pitve, just outside of Jelsa. The town is very quaint and located right before you reach the tunnel to the south side of the island. Enjoy!!
Great place for vacation with small kids. Between two villages and very close to a small sandy beach.
Beautiful house. We enjoyed it so much. Ideal location, peaceful and private. Everything you need is reachable other by bike, car or foot. We were worried that the lack of AC would be a problem, but you don't need it. At nights the air is cold enough and there are practically no mosquitos. So we slept like babies.
Perfect 👌 place to enjoy a little the authentic dalmatian lifestyle. The house is right between Jelsa and Vrboska and the sea is only a couple of meters away. Good for 1-4 people. Outside you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. Many things like bathroom are freshly renovated. We will definitely come back to enjoy it 🙂
The town of Jelsa is family friendly with many activities for children. The neighborhood of Vitarnja, just a 15 min walk from Jelsa town is quiet and shady with pines covering most of the coastline. The shade is a much savored retreat from the heat during the middle of the day. There is a nice breeze on this side of the island and you will find it easy to take a nap here. A local neighbor told me that the pines emit a special scent that induces sleep. Enjoy the vibe of the island and come to Vitarnja for rest and relaxation.
Among the top ten most beautiful islands (Conde Nast), one of the world’s sexiest islands (Forbes Magazine), the sunniest island in the Adriatic and the new St. Tropez; it is not difficult to find superlatives about Croatian’s premier island, enjoying a boom after the recent glitzy facelift to Hvar Town.
Secluded bays on Hvar
While the celebrity yachts of the likes of Bernie Ecclestone, Bill Gates and Roman Abramovich may grab the headlines, there is so much more to the island of Hvar than the exclusive party atmosphere of the main town, and one of the island’s strengths as a tourist destination is the sheer diversity on offer, with something to cater for every type of tourist.
Hvar Town – home of the oldest organised tourism in Europe – has plenty to offer in terms of nightlife, beaches, cuisine, history and culture, as well as easy access to the stunning Pakleni islands a short water-taxi away, but the real diversity of Hvar can be found all over the island.
Archaeology buffs can delight in the ancient settlement of Stari Grad, dating back to 384 BC, and the immaculately preserved (and UNESCO-protected) Stari Grad Plain, or explore the delights of the Neolithic caves such as Grapceva. Lovers of tradition will find plenty to enthral, most notably the Easter Procession, a 500 year-old tradition of carrying the cross through the night on Maundy Thursday.
Hvar is a sailing paradise, with an endless stream of hidden bays and small islands to discover. With two ACI marinas and plenty of mooring space in the main towns, the island is a must-stop on an Adriatic sailing holidays. There are regattas, sailing schools and other water sports, such as sea-kayaking, on offer, while the range of pristine beaches – naturists, family and hidden – are an obvious attraction.
Hvar is a very popular year-round destination for cycling holidays, one of a range of activities adding to its diverse appeal. Rock climbing, hiking and off-road safaris for those looking to discover the more hidden parts of the island. The inaugural Hvar Half-Marathon takes place in August, as does the annual Faros Swimming Marathon.
Fine wine and fine dining are an important aspect to any holiday, and the winemakers of Hvar do not disappoint. Whether it be an organised wine tour, an impromptu drop-in or a bottle of the local red in a waterfront restaurant, the quality of the local wine, spearheaded by internationally recognised vintners such as Andro Tomic and Zlatan Plenkovic, is an added flavour to any trip to Dalmatia.
The range of Dalmatian fish and meat dishes, all served up with the freshest local produce, will ensure a gastronomic feast that will linger in the memory. Old stone waterfront restaurants serving up traditional local fare, washed down with the finest island wines against a backdrop of Dalmatian acapella music is an endearing memory in the minds of many visitors.
Away from the crowds, yoga and meditation, painting holidays, discovering the island’s flora and fauna or taking part in the olive, lavender or wine harvests offers an opportunity to discover more of Hvar’s nature. And for those looking to detox from stressful lives, very little can beat the sunny relaxation of people watching on a pretty Dalmatian square over a coffee and strudel (or something stronger).
A backdrop to every visit is the wonderful climate, described as one of the healthiest in Europe. So convinced were the Austrians in the nineteenth Century that they helped found the Hvar Health Society in 1868, the first organised health holidays in Europe. Whether or not the much-touted promise of a free night’s accommodation in the event of snow still holds or not is unconfirmed, but one thing is sure – a holiday on Hvar is a magical experience in one of the world’s most stunning settings.
Jadrolinjia is the ferry. Public bus in the center of town goes to Hvar and Stari Grad daily. Taxis for hire near the main park on the riva.
