Pointe au Baril · 整套小木屋 · 4室11床1.5卫 · 可住16人 · CARIBOU RUN - 2300 sq ft Log Cabin Sleeps 16 Sauna
Experience the rustic beauty of CARIBOU RUN on Upper Harris Lake north of Pointe au Baril. Located just 2½ hours north of Toronto, and a one minute boat ride from the marina, is a restful oasis of peace. Large spacious main rooms boast 10' and 12' ceilings. Aesthetic charm and modern convenience come together in this well appointed cabin. Handcrafted from 8” square logs and chinking, the living, dining and kitchen areas provide ample room for multiple families or a large group to gather. Tastefully furnished with numerous vintage and antique pieces, Caribou Run is a uniquely relaxing place to spend your vacation. Enjoy separate living and dining areas inside or on the renovated, fully enclosed porch affording beautiful views of the sparkling lake. The porch dining area has an extendable table that seats a large group, and the round dining table inside seats 6. Use the 7 seater kitchen pine bar as additional table seating or as a spacious buffet bar. The kitchen is well equipped with many amenities listed elsewhere. As coffee lovers, we have a coffee grinder, drip coffee machine, Nespresso machine and coffee press. Stainless steel carafes and travel mugs keep your beverage of choice hot for the trek to the dock to take in the peace of a sunrise or sunset. Caribou Run disperses groups very well, providing numerous spaces for eating, playing games, visiting, relaxing with a book or catching a quick nap. None of the bedrooms share a wall, optimal for privacy and the quick settling of children at bedtime. Adults can relax with a group game on the porch, a movie or playing X-Box games without disturbing sleeping children who are tired after a day filled with swimming and games. Our pine-lined electric sauna provides a wonderful place to relax followed by a refreshing jump in the lake. A large dock provides plenty of room for swimming, boating and water sports. Two kayaks and a canoe are provided as well as an aluminum boat with an electric trolling motor. There are life jackets on hooks outside the cabin (please make sure they don’t travel home with you by mistake). *PLEASE NOTE: A Pleasure Craft licence is required to operate the boat & motor.* If you are not bringing your own watercraft, you will need to arrange a water taxi with marina staff in advance (cost not included in rental). Additional watercraft (pontoon boats, canoes, kayaks) are available for rent at the marina (prearrange to ensure availability). Harris Lake is a beautiful mid-size lake that connects with the Magnetawan River through navigable waterways, a 10 minute boat ride from the cabin. The lake provides excellent swimming, boating and fishing (bass, pickerel, pike) and is an ideal place for canoeing. The Magnetawan River is a favourite place to challenge yourself at the 'jumping rock', or to swim in the rapids at the waterfall. THE STORY OF CARIBOU RUN Caribou Run is built on a unique geothermic concept constructed primarily of natural log, wood and rock materials founded on pre-Cambrian cap rock. The living room and the kitchen feature natural rock protrusions. Legend has it that the large caribou on the kitchen wall raced down from the north so fast that he came right through the east wall of our log cabin. There he remains to this day. Once you’ve experienced Caribou Run, we think you’ll want to stay a while too.
The place totally met our needs. The dock is relaxing and the lake is lovely to swim in. The proximity to the marina across the way is very convenient, but at times loud it is also the main view from the dock. The screen in porch area offers a great indoor outdoor sitting area. My friends and I had a lovely time.
What an incredible place! I've rented or stayed at probably 20-30 cottages over my life and this is one of the best. It's modern but rustic, it has the amenities of a house in the city, but feels right at home among the forest. We had 16 people stay there (8 adults and 8 kids between the ages of 3 and 14) and never felt on top of each other. Pros - The kitchen is super well equipped. The bedrooms are all a great size with comfortable beds. There is a lot of space for people to eat. The main bathroom was large and the water was always hot. The dock was nice and large and could accommodate a few boats. The lake is large and has lots of areas to explore. The sauna is such a great addition! Cons - the boat access does create some hiccups when needing things, however the aluminum boat provided, although slow, does give access. I highly recommend booking the full water taxi ($25 for a single person, $35 for all family and luggage). We've already started thinking about booking next year!
This was our 4th stay at Caribou Run. It suits our family perfectly both in space and things to do. Over the last 4 years, we have seen our granddaughters grow in their love for "the cottage", as they call it. They love swimming in the lake. We bring our sea doo and fishing boat. There is ample docking for both. The lake is perfect for water activities as well as great fishing. We once again had a fish fry and had lots of fish to bring home again. We love staying here as there is lots of room for our family, which includes our children, their spouses and our grandchildren. We highly recommend Caribou Run and Harris Lake as the perfect place for large families or extended families. The location on the lake is also great. It is a quick jaunt across from the Marina, and being close to the Marina is not an issue. We find the lake to be very quiet. Without a doubt, one of our favourite family vacation spots! Bev and Gary are very accommodating and communication is very fast.
Fantastic family cottage with real warmth and personality and space! All 11 of us had a brilliant time, the water, the board games, the sunroom!! We cannot wait to come back!
It has been 8 years since our family has gotten together for a vacation and we couldn't have picked a better place to reunite everyone. The scenery was stunning, the cottage was beautiful, the hosts amazing, the fishing successful and the water was SO comfortable - refreshing - but comfortable. We have been looking for a cottage to spend quality time with each of our kids and our extended family and this place did not disappoint. Great big shout out to Gary and Bev.....we absolutely loved our time. I don't think this will be the last time we see this place. BIG RECOMMENDATION!!
At Pointe au Baril on Highway 69, you will find two great fish and chip stand options (the one on the West side has ice cream!), and there is an extensive bait store beside the one on the East side. Worms are also available at the Marina.
Turn West at the Fish and Chip stands to find the town of Pointe au Baril. There is a Home Hardware store with an extensive grocery section (pricier than in town) and free water bottle refills a bit further on at the Pointe au Baril Community Center (take the empties with the center white cap).
Beside the Community Center In Pointe au Baril there is a nursing station that is open Mon-Thu 8 am-12 noon, 1 pm-4 pm, and Fri 8 am-12 noon. Remember your OHIP card! For more serious concerns, the West Parry Sound Hospital is your closest option. In case of a dire emergency, call the Britt ambulance and inform the marina so they can direct the EMTs.
For pet emergencies, there are a couple of vet clinics in Parry Sound. More details in the Info for guest section.
While in the area, enjoy a 30 minute trip to beautiful Parry Sound, book a ride on the Island Queen cruise on Georgian Bay, and enjoy shopping, dining and golf options. A personal favourite is eating on the patio overlooking Georgian Bay at Tailwinds, where you can see the Island Queen Ferry, as well as planes that are used for flight tours of the area.
We are an hour south of Sudbury, Science North and the Big Nickel. Twenty minutes north of us is a Tim Hortons in a large gas station; the French River Trading Post is a bit beyond that.
Numerous trails are accessible from the back of the property that connect with paths to small lakes and walk paths or snowmobile trails. Behind us is Crown land. Children should not go behind the workshop unattended, as they could become lost. Please note: mushrooms range from toxic to deadly; please make sure children are told not to eat them.

Bev and I have lived in Canada, Cambodia and had long stays in Thailand for work. During that time we had the opportunity to travel many exciting places but would rent a cottage each summer for a family reunion where cousins could play and we could all unplug from our daily lives and reconnect. When we returned to life in Canada, we wanted to find a place where we could gather regularly as a family and build lasting memories together. Caribou Run was purchased and furnished to fulfill that dream. As we can’t spend all the time we’d like here, we decided to offer our space to other families to make their own lakeside memories too. Besides swimming and fishing, you’ll find a large variety of family games, movies both for kids and adults, and an XBox 360 with a large variety of games for rainy days and evenings inside. If you are here at the right time, you’ll find a harvest of wild raspberries right outside our door. So check out the photos and see if you can picture your family here.
