Our stay at James's house on the Columbia River, was very enjoyable. The renovations he has made specifically to the interior his 100-year-old family home has rendered it cozy and comfortable, yet spacious, with up-to-date bath and kitchen appliances. The two newly completed upper and lower decks at the back of the house offer lovely views of a leg of the fast-moving river and the historic island across from it (Lewis and Clark had camped there twice on their exploratory westward journey, James told us), and on clear days we could even see snow-covered Mt. St. Helens upriver from us. Moreover, as he owns several adjacent houses along this stretch of the river, he also told us we could have access to a boat, kayaks, and fishing supplies, from any of several docks on either side of ours. His written suggestions about the easiest way to reach his house (instead of the more complicated Internet ones) was very helpful to us and we are very glad we chose to stay there.

we came down to visit family. this was the perfect place to stay.
