The Retreat was the perfect place to spend Christmas with family. My mum struggles with stairs etc so great having the downstairs loo. Bedrooms and beds were cosy and comfortable and the walk in shower was great. We cooked Christmas dinner and lots more family meals in the kitchen and it had everything we needed. We really loved the dining room - so much room and the table extended so we could keep scrabble, jigsaws etc running while we ate. Log burner was a great bonus and the reclining chairs provided hours of fun! We went to the Old Boat House twice and also recommend the butcher's in Amble - in fact the whole High Street is worth exploring.

Maria’s place is absolutely lovely. Felt right at home as soon as we walked in. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and there is everything you could need for a nice week’s break. It’s situated on a nice quiet street within easy walking distance of great pubs, restaurants and the harbour where there’s plenty to look at. We went beach-combing a few times and found some lovely bits of driftwood which had washed up after the recent storm. Plenty to do in the local area, castles, walks, nice villages etc. Maria was always quick to respond to my messages and couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly. Would love to stay again sometime. Don’t hesitate to book this place, it’s amazing.

Really cosy and comfortable holiday home. Very well equipped and plenty of room for 5 adults + dog. Area is not glam but it's residential, safe and very quiet and has everything that you need in an easy walk - including great beach dog walks from the door. Street parking was fine and free. Maria was a great host. She's really responsive and was able to be quite flexible about arrival times. She's created a home that would be fun for families in the summer and is also a really snug and warm home for winter breaks. Amble is is really great base. A working fishing village with a good mix of local character and tourist treats. Was an easy place to get to and to see the Northumberland coast from. Loads of great places to eat, drink and shop. We had a really relaxing stay and hope to return.
