Relax with the whole family at Blooms Gorse Cottage in a clearing in the heart of Sherwood Forest, with cosy log fires, hot tub & BBQ. Step out of the door to enjoy over 3000 acres of woodland in Sherwood Pines. Go Ape, paint balling, & family pub 15 minute bike ride away. There is something for everyone - see our Guidebook. Accommodates 12: Ensuite double, family ensuite (double & twin), double, mezzanine floor (can sleep 2) & double in self-contained annexe. Parks 5 Blooms Gorse Cottage was built in 1874, originally as 3 labourers cottages. They have since been joined into one long cottage with generous grounds front and back which are surrounded by the forest on all sides. Kick your shoes off in the generous oak framed porch and step into the spacious, terracotta tiled open-plan kitchen/diner with its vaulted ceiling and exposed oak beams. To the left is a seating area opening out into the dining area in the conservatory with doors out to the covered hot tub and BBQ area with a dual BBQ (gas & charcoal provided) and a firepit. To the right, a wall of exposed brickwork with a large fireplace houses a range cooker. A few steps to the right and you will find yourself in the lounge which is kept cosy by a wood burner, and like the kitchen, has a high vaulted ceiling. The lounge is equipped with a smart TV. Along the corridor you will find the bedrooms and at the end of the corridor, a family bathroom. Three of the bedrooms are on the cottage's ground floor. Bedroom 1 (double) has an ensuite. Bedroom 2 (king) at the end of the corridor is the most spacious with a view straight out into the forest. Bedroom 3 (double) has stairs up to a bathroom and an attic family room with either a twin or double bed to provide self-contained family sleeping accommodation (please note when working out sleeping arrangements that Bedroom 4 can only be accessed by going up the stairs in Bedroom 3). There is a fifth sleeping area on a balcony up in the vaulted ceiling, overlooking the kitchen. The bed on the balcony is a double futon bed. Bedroom 6 is in a single storey annexe building around 20 yards from the front door of the cottage, on the other side of the drive. The annexe has its own small kitchen and toilet/shower.
what an amazing weekend we had. Ben was super responsive and always at the end of a call if we needed anything. a lovely welcome hamper was provided alongside lots of wood for the fires and hot tub. towels and fresh bedding was on each made up bed and kitchen was spotless. we did have an issue with the heating being broken, but totally out of Ben's control. However he still did his upmost to fix it, provided us with lots of spare heaters and wood and coal and was very apologetic couldn't have asked for a better weekend
Ben was extremely welcoming and helpful. He made sure we had all we needed, and was on hand throughout our stay for any further questions we had. The cottage was even more beautiful in person and was in such a great location. Really enjoyed our stay!
Our stay at Blooms Gorse Cottage was wonderful. The house was as described and simply beautiful! The hosts were extremely attentive, responsive and helpful which made us feel relaxed and at home. The location is fab, with plenty to do for those of all ages from walks on the doorstep to adventurous activities at the Sherwood Pines visitor centre. We would not hesitate to recommend this place to more family & friends.
Blooms Gorse Cottage is in a small clearing off a forest track in the heart of Sherwood Forest in an area known as Sherwood Pines. You can step out of the door in to over 3000 acres woodland and may glimpse fallow deer on early morning walks around the cottage, especially around Deerdale Lane.
Sherwood Pines is well known for its miles of walking and mountain bike trails. The Sherwood Pines 'Family Cycle Trail' and 'Adventure Trail' pass 50 yards from the cottage and the popular downhill mountain bikers trail can be joined a mile further along the track.
15 minutes walk on a track toward Go Ape you will find an open grassy area great for kicking balls and picnics where you can find Disc Golf/Ultimate Frisbee baskets.
Every year in September there is a 10k Sherwood Pines run but it’s a great place to run all year around.
August is a great time to pick blackberries in the forest - why not bring ingredients to bake a blackberry and apple pie or crumble!
Go Ape, and Adrenaline Jungle and other family forest activities are all within a 15 minute cycle ride along forest tracks. Sherwood Pines was used as a training centre to build trenches in WW1 and you may come across a reconstruction on your walks. Sherwood Pines also has its own 5000 capacity open air concert venue.
Places to visit outside the forest include:
Rufford Park (2.5 miles)
South Forest Swimming Baths (2.5 miles)
The World of Robin Hood and the Major Oak (4 miles)
Lockwell Hill Outdoor Activity Centre - go-karting, 4x4, quad biking and archery (3 miles)
The National Holocaust Centre (7 miles)
Clumber Park (10 miles)
The Rose Cottage is a popular local pub/restaurant two miles away which serves excellent food.
Access to the cottage is along a mile of well maintained gravel forest track so there is no nearby public transport and you will need a vehicle to get there. There is parking for 4-5 vehicles at the cottage and secure bike storage.
