Carters Cottage nestles in the peaceful Dorset hamlet of North Chideock, adjacent to 17th century Home Farm Cottage. A fabulous rambler's location, within 30 mins walk from the Jurassic coast, 3 thatched pubs, Spar shop, Felicity's Farm Shop, Hell's Lane hollow-way, Colmers Hill & Symondsbury Estate Cafe. 15 mins drive to Lyme Regis. The Cottage is small & simply furnished, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen & TV lounge. Guest parking, private walled garden and bike storage adjacent. Experience life in a genuine 1853 Dorset thatched cottage, formerly the home of carpenters who specialised in making the village cartwheels. This peaceful rural retreat has near access to the beach and supermarkets in Bridport and Axminster.

Really loved our short stay at Alison's place. Stunning location, very peaceful and so much wonderful walking right on the doorstep. The cottage was perfect for my husband and I and our two big dogs - Alison was very accommodating and helpful, right from the start. We want to come back!
The cottage is lovely and in a beautiful location. Everything was well prepared. There were some thoughtful touches including fresh flowers, and some local produce. Communication was excellent and we felt that we were very welcome. A very good find!
A unique place far from the maddening crowds of places like Lyme Regis yet close enough to use as a base for exploring Dorset. Very true to the description. Down narrow country lanes with pastures and beautiful walks all around. Good restaurants within walking distance. Alison was very responsive and gave us great suggestions on restaurants and walks. We loved our stay.
Alison has created a lovely haven for visiting the area. The cottage is in a beautiful spot, thoughtfully furnished (incredibly comfortable beds!) and has everything you need as a cosy, peaceful base. Nice touches like fresh flowers in every room and delicious locally-produced staples waiting in the kitchen were very welcome. From booking to check-out, Alison was an excellent host, quickly replying to emails and offering some great recommendations for local places to eat, visit and explore. We would absolutely recommend Alison's cottage as a place to stay and would come back again.

Quiet rural location with public footpaths in all directions. Farming buildings, workers cottages and holiday cottages. Fields of sheep, cattle and crops surrounded by a horse shoe of hills with the English Channel at the southern end. 15 minutes walk across the hills is the thatched, dog-friendly George pub in Chideock, atmospheric with pub food. 30 minutes walk along the public footpath takes you to the thatched, sea-front Anchor at Seatown, voted England's best pub and my all time favourite choice, but book! The fabulous 40 minute walk behind the cottage, up Hells Lane and down Shute Lane hollow-way takes you to Symmondsbury Estate Cafe for lunch or the thatched Ilford Arms for a pub meal. Have a wonderful time and don'tforget a torch if it will be dark.
North Chideock is criss-crossed with public footpaths so bring an ordance survey map or download the App on your Smartphone if you're a walker. To get to the cottage, North Chideock is remote so you will need a car unless you are cycling or hiking between stops. The buses X53 or X51 can take you all along the Jurassic coast for a low price, leaving from Chideock's main street, the A35 [15 minutes walk from the cottage]. The nearest train stations are Axminster or Dorchester, where there are usually taxis available. The nearest airports are Bristol and Southampton.
