Thank you for checking out Hygge House on Richmond Pond! Hygge (hoo-ga) is the Danish art of enjoying life's simple pleasures, an atmosphere of comfort and coziness . This is exactly how our family feels at Hygge House and what we hope our guests will experience too! What makes our home a unique and ideal sanctuary for a memorable hygge experience? Well, our property caters to a variety of New England spring and summer options, whether you are looking for: ⧫ Water sports - our property offers direct access to the inlet for Richmond pond (canoe and kayak provided, in season). -2 beaches (in season) : 1 private for residents and guests of Richmond Shores, the other a public area -staffed by lifeguards- with sand, a grassy area and grills for BBQing. ⧫ Fishing - cast off from your watercraft or the public access fishing trail and try your luck at reeling in a lake trout or bass (bring your own gear) ⧫ Hike - Mt. Greylock State Reservation (15 miles) offers endless trails for the most experienced adventurer. -Mass Audubon's Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary (9 miles) trails range from very easy to a more challenging trail up to an old fire-tower outlook. ⧫Cultural pursuits - Tanglewood (7 miles), museums, historic sites, estates and gardens galore! Though for many, Hygge House is all the sanctuary you’ll need. Our home is equipped with a gorgeous stone hearth fireplace allowing you and your friends and family to sip hot chocolate on those wintry evenings while watching a movie on the 50-inch flatscreen TV, or challenge each other to a variety of board games available. You can also enjoy the simple serenity of sitting on an adirondack chair on the back lawn while roasting the perfect marshmallow for s'mores over the fire pit. If you're in need of some pampering, we can recommend 2 awesome local masseuses who will come to Hygge House with a massage table! We can also recommend local chefs who will cook a full course meal on premises! (not included in rate) The Space Inside, the newly furnished, spacious 2,100 square foot house offers 3 separate living areas, including a chalet-style living room with fireplace, brand new, super comfy couch and oversized chairs (great for family game night - bingo is our girls’ favorite!), an open concept dining/family room with comfy couch and TV on one side, and a large dining table on the other, plus a gorgeous sunroom facing the backyard and pond inlet, ideal for a morning coffee or rainy afternoon nap. For mind-body serenity, check out our yoga/meditation space looking out over the treetops. If you can’t completely leave the real world behind, the yoga space doubles as a work space (not very hygge :( ) located on the second floor, away from the action downstairs. Kids need some hygge time too, and yours will love the bedroom “cozy corner” for reading and the play space for...playing. The Area Hygge House is located centrally in the Berkshires, known for its year-round attractions, providing visitors with all the classic New England charms and attractions, from skiing, tubing and snowshoeing in the winter, to hiking and biking in the spring, to kayaking and swimming in the summer, and gazing at the fall foliage in, you guessed it, the fall. And for those looking for cultural pursuits, the Berkshires offers some of the world’s best music, theater and dance venues including Tanglewood, Jacob’s Pillow and Shakespeare & Co. The House Three bedrooms (king, queen, twin over full bunkbed) and three separate living areas (2,100 sq ft in all) provide ample space to gather with friends and family or enjoy quiet relaxation. Enjoy time in the main living room boasting a gorgeous large wood-burning fireplace, along with a 50” flat screen TV (access to Roku TV apps which give you movies & TV including sports, music, and more. Also, sign into Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc. with your personal account). Share meals, movies and games (bingo anyone?) in the inviting, spacious dining/family room featuring a large dining table, comfy couch and a 43” flat screen TV (Spectrum Cable. Also, sign into Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc. with your personal account). The sunroom is one of our favorite spaces to enjoy coffee in the morning or take an afternoon nap with the sun streaming in the wall of windows and the view to the backyard and inlet providing all the cues of nature (there’s nothing more hygge than communing with Mother Nature). Just off the sunroom is the “kid's corner” where little ones can enjoy drawing on the chalkboard wall or playing with new and classic toys. The large kitchen with gas stove is equipped with the tools you’ll need to prepare a meal to share with friends and family. Four (yes, 4) types of coffee makers are available for those particular about their morning joe. Basic seasonings are also provided…just bring your favorite ingredients. Finishing off the downstairs tour is the full bathroom (with tub) and laundry area. Moving to the 2nd floor, please use caution on the rather steep stairs to the master bedroom. The spacious master with king bed looks out over the back yard and inlet. The sloped ceilings and comfy reading chair make for a very hygge space. Off the master is the separate office and yoga space where you can work or stretch looking out over the backyard trees. There is high-speed wi-fi throughout the house. Through the office/yoga room is the upstairs bathroom with shower and on the other side of the bathroom you’ll find the two additional bedrooms. The “black and white” room with queen bed is tucked under the sloped eave - one of our favs aesthetically. The kids room provides a twin over full bunkbed (for those both young and young at heart) and a “cozy corner” with beanbag chairs and fairy lights. Finally, the second stairway leads from the B&W and kids rooms back down to the dining/family room.
Jessica's place was great. Beautiful sun room, lovely bedrooms, very clean and thoughtfully decorated. We were there on a very cold winter weekend but felt snug, warm and cozy.
Amazing, cozy house in a beautiful spot. The house is designed to take good care of families. I was surprised by a nice playroom that we used a lot. This house aced the 5 stars.
We had a great week at the house— which does have a lovely vibe. Our grandchildren loved the play area adjacent to the sunroom. Toys, games, chalkboard: everything that young children could need. The house has a number of well defined spaces so folks can have some space on their own. It was nice to come to a place that was well-equipped with linens and kitchen supplies, including beach towels, chairs, and safety vests for adults and children. We love the Berkshires and this is a lovely place whether you just want to relax and enjoy nature or get out and visit surrounding sites. Very helpful and responsive hosts.
Had a great stay at Hygge House! It was exactly as pictured. I loved waking up to morning tea looking out at the water from the sunroom, and my toddler had a blast in the kids area. Jessica was also extremely responsive, especially when the power went out and she updated me about what the power company was saying (a truck hit a power line, so I don’t think outages are common). We’d definitely stay here again!
