Great place away from the hubbub. Rose and John are fantastic in all respects. House is well stocked, comfortable, and clean.
Munkhouse is a tranquil getaway! If you’re looking for a private spot to relax and unwind this is the place. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We’re gonna miss sitting on the porch every morning with a hot cup of coffee listening to the birds sing and the neighs from the neighboring horse across the street. This little house has an awesome story and so much history. I believe Munkhouse is loved not only by the family that experienced it’s history, but also by the many that they’ve invited to experience it for themselves.
We absolutely loved our stay here! We felt right at home and had everything we needed. There is a spacious yard surrounding the home and it’s located in a small country town so you can still hear the birds and see the stars in the night sky. The hosts were great— Rose & John were very friendly and attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. We enjoyed the history of the home and all of the vintage touches, the comfy furniture, a great dvd selection and a nice front porch with a bbq! Just down the road is the beautiful San Marcos river (we drove down there but you could even walk it). This is the perfect place to get away from it all and yet still easily get to surrounding cities. Such a special little farmhouse— we hope to revisit in the future!
Rose and John were very friendly and helped when we needed it! 10/10 would recommend this place! Quiet and relaxing place.
We rented the Munk House for my son who is finishing up his clinical rotation in Luling and needed a place to stay nearby. He absolutely loved staying at Rose & John’s house. It was very clean and beautifully decorated. The beds are comfortable and the water pressure worked really well. There is no WiFi and the cellular service is a bit spotty but we managed. We spent our Thanksgiving holiday at the Munk House and even though the kitchen/stove is a bit small…it worked beautifully for us and we had a fantastic day. The place is very peaceful and it has that “home away from home” feel to it. We would definitely love to stay here again if we are ever in the area.
Fentress is a small, country town situated on the San Marcos River. The town began in the late 1860s with the appropriate name of Riverside. It was renamed Fentress in 1892 to honor James Fentress, the town's first physician. The following year the town was granted its first post office. In its heyday, Fentress was home to a cotton gin, several general stores, a bank, a pharmacy, a local doctor, a confectioner's shop, a blacksmith shop, an open-air skating rink, & a wonderful river resort.
