Walkers are attracted to the area’s many tranquil footpaths with spectacular views over Morecambe Bay & the Lake District to the west and north and towards the Yorkshire Dales and Forest of Bowland to the east and south an impressive setting. Probably the best way to really explore the Arnside & Silverdale district is on foot. Discover the many lovely wooded walks around National Trust owned Arnside Knott, a 520 ft flat rock, head up to admire the view from the Pepper-Pot at Silverdale or ramble around the coast with its cliff top walks and sea views. Climb the narrow gap between the rocks at the Fairy Steps. Created many years ago as a short-cut so folk could carry coffins from outlying farms to the churchyard in the village of Beetham The Arnside bore is an impressive rush of water caused by a combination of the high tidal range and the shape of the bay which narrows into the Kent Estuary at Arnside. To give yourself the best chance of seeing an impressive bore wave, make sure you visit during a predicted tide of 9.5m or more, or preferably a spring tide. The bore normally occurs 2.5 hours before the high tide. A good place to start exploring would be at the Information Centre at the Old Station Building in Arnside. Here you will find a great selection of leaflets on walking, cycling and the amazing wildlife in the AONB. The Information Centre has limited opening hours but is normally open Monday to Thursday 9am – 1pm and 2pm-4pm and on Fridays 9am – 1pm. It is closed at weekends and on Bank Holidays. And to end your day how about a pint of local ale at The Albion in Arnside sitting watching the sun setting over the bay with The Lakeland hills beyond? Should you wish to travel further afield Bowness on Windermere is just a 30 minute drive or travel East to see the beautiful town of Kirkby Lonsdale & take a walk by the river or a little further to see the stunning waterfalls at Ingleton. Whether you are seeking beautiful walks, stunning scenery, amazing sunsets & a wide selection of tourist attractions pubs & restaurants have it all on our doorstep. Should Milos Retreat be booked for the dates you are interested in or should you be planning to holiday with friends, children or dogs, we do have another holiday let available less than 2 miles away from Milos Retreat. The other property is Watersedge Retreat & is listed on airbnb
We really enjoyed our stay at Milo’s Retreat - what a beautiful quiet spot Carr Bank is. Arnside is such a lovely unspoilt area. The walk into Arnside along the banks of the estuary was great. Leighton Moss and Warton (The Old School Brewery) were fab as was the climb up to Arnside Knot. A peaceful retreat. Great communication from Jules.
We really enjoyed our two nights at Milo's Retreat. Great views and a lovely walk along the coast to Arnside. Jules was a very welcoming, helpful and perfect host. x
Highly recommend Milo's Retreat. Compact but has everything needed to self cater. Well equipped kitchen. Extremely comfortable: bed, pillows, sofa, cushions... all good quality. Nice little area outside to sit with a cuppa in the morning or a vino late afternoon (seems to catch both morning and evening sun).
The hamlet of Carr Bank is located a 5 min drive from Arnside which has a lovely selection of cafes, ice cream shops, tea rooms, restaurants & pubs.
15 minutes walk to the coastline, 30 minutes walk into Arnside along the coast line. Beautiful countryside walks from the doorstep. Incredible scenery & wildlife.
Further afield are the National Parks Lake District & Yorkshire Dales. Morecambe Bay, Lancaster, Kendal & Kirkby Lonsdale
The area is extremely popular for cycling & walking. If you would like to take a trip up in the west coast the local train station is just a 5 minute drive away. If you want to enjoy the beauty of Windermere by boat it is a short drive to Lakeside where you can take a trip on a steamer across the lake to Bowness or Ambleside
