We have a mixed experience. Everything looks nice, but when we arrived there was a broken pipe used for drugs on the ground, glass hidden under a pillow on the couch, a needle on the top shelf of the closet and dead bugs in the bathroom. Everything else was immaculate and the suite was perfect for what we needed (weekend of skiing in Kimberly). We were able to cook food, i was able to work during the day and it's super close to the ski hill. The host didn't respond to any messages and front desk staff was unreachale most of the time, but they provided a us with a refund, but only 10%, and as we booked through airBnB, they weren't been able to figure out how to process the refund.
Nice space with everything a family needs in a cozy kitchenette. I liked the cool. retro touches.
When we arrived, I followed the instructions our host sent us short notice for a contactless entry that said we would have to pull our luggage up two flights of stairs. I did not know about this ahead of time and can't physically do this, and my children have special needs. My husband and I were prepared with rolling suitcases, but I can't lift them due to health reasons, and he risks injury trying to pull them up that many stairs. The building seemed to be an old hotel that was slowly being renovated. I figured there must be an elevator somewhere. The instructions said if we needed help, to talk to the bartender (?). I saw a person behind the desk in the back office and got their attention (this I learned later was the bartender). I asked if there was an elevator we could use. She said yes, she could take me to it, just let her know when we were ready. Then she left. After we had gathered ourselves and our luggage in the lobby, I found her in the adjacent bar and told her we were ready to follow her to the elevator. She said ok, she would meet us at the desk. Instead, we were left at the desk. We waited 30 min. before giving up and hauling the bags up the steps with difficulty. When we got to the room, it became clear it was two hotel rooms they had cut a doorway between them and turned it into a very efficient suite. One of the former bathrooms had been converted into a small kitchenette. At first, everything seemed Ok. But then we discovered bugs. Lots of white flies in the bathroom that my husband killed one by one. I discovered they seemed to be coming into the room through the AC mounted under the window in the bedroom area. The buttons on the AC in the bedroom were broken off and we could not control it to turn it off so it would stop blowing flies into the room. We pulled the long curtains around it to try to keep the flies to a minimum. There was someone else's candy under the side bench on the floor. My daughter wanted to eat it. I quickly did a more thorough inspection and cleaned up the prior guests candy. When we tried to plug in some medical equipment at the main bed, we saw there was an exposed electrical outlet hanging out of the wall behind the headboard. In another area, near the couch in the sitting area, there was an outlet with no cover - just a big hole and a plug in. One of my children said the bed was so hard she couldn't sleep on it and ended up putting a blanket on the carpet to sleep. The child in the top bunk bed discovered a deep hole big enough to put an index finger into right at her pillow level. I had her plug the hole with TP, uncertain what that was all about. In the bathroom, the toilet rocks from side to side when I sat on it, and the area between the sink and the tub is growing something thick and super gross starting at the floor. When I used the shower, the hot water would not stay hot, and was either scorching or ice cold. Same for the "cold" water. When I thought I got the temp right, I tried to take a shower, the hot and cold kept switching even though I was not turning the knobs! I jumped out of the shower water just in time when the hot water went to scorching, and it burned the top of my foot. I told my husband and the kids they would not be using the bath or shower. We tried to settle in, but the couch in the living room is basically for show - super uncomfortable, and actually caused us pain to sit on it. No padding hardly at all, we could feel every piece of wood through our bums. I started looking around some more and saw white powder around the perimeter of the room. It looked like someone had tried to vacuum it up. Granted, some of the areas were just deeply dusty, but I was suspicious seeing a white line at the cove base around the room. Figured we had just paid for one night: sleep and get out of there. In the AM, my daughter saw bugs crawling on the living room carpet. I looked closer and it appears to be young cockroaches. I had been wheezing the night before, which is not a surprise as I have some pervasive allergies. However, my allergy specialist informed me I am allergic to cockroaches, so of course putting two and two together, we got out of there as soon as possible. I understand some of the issues we had are related to our unique challenges, but others are safety hazards. Before leaving a negative review, I asked the support staff at Airbnb to assist with conveying our concerns to the host, in hopes that they would have an opportunity to address the issues so the next guests might have a better experience, rather than leave a potentially damaging review. Regardless of circumstances, it has been our past experiences that hosts are trying their best, and we really appreciate their efforts. However, we were told that Airbnb responded by asking the host for a refund (we did not ask for nor expect a refund) and that the host was unwilling to address our concerns. We have experienced a good history with using Airbnb and I prefer to try to be proactive rather than complain. However, considering the response we received, I really do think the hosts have more maintenance to do on this suite before it should be made available for rent to future guests. It would also be helpful to post that this suite
we had a great stay at the Western lodge. check in process was smooth and all communication was clear, prompt, accurate and pleasant. the play kitchen set in our family suite was a huge hit with our little one.
