Rivington · 小屋 · 0室2床1.0卫 · 可住2人 · Quirky bothy in the heart of rural Rivington
The bothy is set in the beautiful Lancashire village of Rivington at the foot of the stunning Pennine Moors. Set in two acres of cottage gardens, this simple Shepherd Hut style accommodation is an ideal base for hill walking, woodland treks, mountain bike trails, water sports or visiting quaint tearooms / breweries. Rivington is only 15 miles from Manchester and just a couple of miles from the Middlebrook retail and cinema facilities. The bothy is a 20 minute walk from Horwich high street. The bothy is a simple Shepherd Hut style accommodation where pets are welcome. As such, it is an ideal base for hill walking, woodland treks, mountain bike trails, water sports or visiting numerous quaint tearooms or breweries. In line with what you would expect from a Shepherds Hut experience, this is not a standard hotel experience. The bothy is a cosy studio space where you pull out the sofa bed in the main studio room and add the adjacent mattress to create a comfy bed. For people who prefer a more standard double, a small fold up double bed is available from the shed store opposite the bothy and guests may also help themselves to garden furniture to relax in the grounds. There is a modern en-suite facility within the bothy with an electric shower. There is a wash basin in the en-suite, which in-line with the Shepherds Hut vibe, just has cold water from the tap. Hot water is available if needed from the kettle in the main room and the electric shower can provide hot or cold water as required.
Lovely snug little bothy, peaceful surroundings so a nice quiet nights sleep. The place was clean and had the basic essentials for the night. Catherine allowed us to park for the whole day prior to check in which was very helpful. Great place for a 1 night stay. Only suggestion would be to have a proper bed installed as the mattress topper was too big for the sofa bed so it hanged off the sides. However the topper was very comfortable and we both had a good nights sleep! It can get cold but a heater is provided and you can always use the log burner (which fuel was provided for). Bathroom was very clean and spacious. Great communicative host. Thank you very much, we enjoyed our stay!
We loved this place. Walked up to the pike via the garden and watched the sun setting with some prosecco and then walked in to Horwich and had a lovely Italian meal then walked back to the Bothy and lit the wood burner. It was a perfect stay for us, thank you x
This place has a lot of potential, however it does not have a decent bed so neither of us slept well. The sofa bed is tiny and would only be a double for stick insects. Two single mattresses were provided so one of us slept on the floor on one, the other we used on the sofa bed. Even so it was very uncomfortable. The layout of the room was also very strange and the space did not feel like it had any real thought or effort put into making it nice. All it needs is a nice double bed and a few homely touches, including decent lighting. We didn't light the wood burner as after inspecting it discovered the seal was worn around the edges (we have a wood burner at home) so it would have filled the small space we were going to sleep in with smoke! The bathroom was nice and the shower was hot and powerful. Catherine was kind to message us to say there was no hurry to check out as she didn't have more guests coming that day. It is also a very peaceful location, just very basic!
An amazing place and a perfect escape. Catherine was lovely and the walks and surrounding areas are beautiful! Our dog loved the walks and we will definitely return :)
Rivington is a local beauty spot, which is increasingly getting regional and national recognition. There is a vast array of beautiful walks available directly from the bothy. The nearby Go Ape facility provides climbing and water vista high walks or zip wires for the more adventurous.
Across the reservoir, the Anderton Centre gives access to kayaking and Paddleboarding as well as a range of children’s activities that run in their school holiday clubs, including den making and climbing.
For those wishing for a more sedate pace, there are lovely tea rooms and an acclaimed local brewery with an outstanding beer garden to visit.
Parking is available for more than one car on the shared drive. Public transport is available in Horwich, which is a 15 minute walk from the bothy. There is a limited bus service in Rivington but this currently only runs on bank holidays and Sundays.
