House of Sage - Nanyuki is located in an expansive resort, just opposite Mount Kenya National Park, about 11km from Naro Moru town and 21km before Nanyuki town. The house is ‘in the wild’, with friendly wild animals and horses roaming the compound. Golf lovers can also putt within the resort for a small fee, and one can enjoy beautiful sunsets while watching the animals quench their thirst at the dam nearby. OVERVIEW The House is a four all ensuite-bedroom, holiday home with a lounge and fireplace, fully furnished and equipped modern kitchen, dining area, pantry, terrace and balcony. There is one bedroom downstairs and three bedrooms upstairs. Each of the bedrooms upstairs has a balcony, facing either the magnificent Mt. Kenya or the Aberdare ranges. The house has an entertainment system and a flatscreen TV with WIFI and DSTV access. We provide the necessary toiletries. PS: The space is someone’s house and as such, kindly treat it with the same care and love as you would give to your own house. CHECK-IN We are quite flexible with the check-ins and check-outs, but equally appreciate prior communication in case of any special circumstances to allow us ensure all incoming and departing guests enjoy their stay from the first to the last minute. DIRECTIONS If you are coming from Nairobi, once you are in Naromoru town, drive for about 3.5km towards Nanyuki. You will see a white sign board written Mt. Kenya Holiday Homes Golf Resort on your left, at a small shopping centre called “Ya Chuma”. Turn left at this signpost and drive the murram road for 6km. The road is relatively well maintained and even a small car can comfortably be able to maneuver even in rainy seasons. At the 6km mark, you will see the resort on your left, easily identifiable by two iron round ‘huts’ that houses the police post for the resort. On your left is a green gate, written “Community Patrol”. This is the entrance to the resort. At the gate you should be directed to House 10, which is House of Sage. You drive straight once you enter the gate for about 300m, turn right for about 30m then immediately turn left to a wooden gate. Once you enter this gate, turn right and drive about 200m. House of Sage will be on your right. Kennedy, our locally based caretaker will also assist in guiding you to the House. PARKING There is free parking in front of the house that can accommodate up to three vehicles. Additional parking can be organized upon request if necessary. OUR STAFF Kennedy takes care of House of Sage. He is a great Swahili speaker and chef, and as such, also doubles up as our resident chef. He can assist in meal preparation (for a small fee), menu selection and even shopping as and when needed. Francis is the Resort Manager and will check on guests from time to time; and ensures the entire resort is safe as well as can assist in organizing for golf should one need. SECURITY The house is situated within the resort, which has 24-7 security, with regular patrols. We have also installed solar-powered security lighting at the house, that automatically come on once it starts getting dark. Additionally, there is a police post right at the entrance to the resort, which gives an added layer of security for the entire resort. WIFI & NETWORK Wifi Username: House no.10 Wifi Password: Houseofsage#10 The mobile network connection is weak, especially when one is in the house. The wifi should help in access to common internet-based mobile communication applications. PLACES TO EAT AND DRINK Majority of the restaurants are located within and near Nanyuki town, which is about 25km from the house. Trout Tree restaurant is however pretty close and only about 7km from the house. Other great restaurants are Le Rustique, Barneys (by the airstrip), Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club (which has great activities including an animal orphanage), The Nook Café & Bar, Jib’s Café & Bistro, Jack’s Bar at the Soame’s Hotel and Saltbush Bar & Grill. SHOPPING We recommend the Cedar Mall in Nanyuki, whose anchor tenant is Quickmart, one of the leading retail chains in Kenya. The mall also houses Java House, for that Kenyan coffee or quick meal. ACTIVITIES A: Within the House/Resort We provide board games for guests in House of Sage. Guests can also enjoy a walk or drive within the resort and/or a game of golf (for a small fee). We advise that you carry your own kit for this. Guests can also drive or walk to the dam near the house (within the resort), and enjoy a beautiful sunset while watching the animals quench their thirst. B: Activities outside the Resort Nanyuki offers a rich variety of activities that guests can engage in. In addition to exploration of the eating and drinking joints, some of the activities that we recommend are a stop at the Equator on your way to Nanyuki, (one can also do some small shopping here), a visit to Ol Pejeta Conservancy – home to black rhinos and the only white rhinos left in the world, a day trip to Ngare Ndare Forest, climb Mount Kenya, visit the animal orphanage at the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy, visit Mount Kenya National Park, visit the weaving community at Nanyuki Weavers, visit Chaka Ranch (home of many activities such as quad biking, water park, paint balling etc),
