Bigwood Island is a slice of heaven. The views are extraordinary. Sun-kissed sunsets, stary nights, water going on forever, beautiful rocks and kind breezes, wildlife and 75 degree water, beautiful trails and countless vistas. The lodge itself is beautiful and functional, and full of a family’s touches and time, and the other cabins on the property each have something distinctly special about them too. Arlette did a great job of keeping in touch with us and ensuring we had a great stay there. If you do not have a fantastic time at this place you need to consult a physician for help.

This island is a dream! A perfect way to connect with Canada and nature. Each part of the island has wonderful scenic views. There is a lot of adventure for both adults and children with ponds and trails. Young children swam to right side of the dock where water is 1-2 feet deep. Bring water shoes! Large dock was great for multiple fisherman. Lots of wild life, fish, bald eagles, loons, otter, snakes... no bear sightings our week. Large porch provided wonderful sunsets and views while keeping us shaded. Back porch provided the ladies with VIP hour. The cottages are well kept and clean. You will not run out of new discoveries and subjects to talk about, inside and out! The perfect getaway cottage to simply, disconnect while reconnecting! Arlette and her team are great host! We are a group of 13-15 friends/family who spent a week on Bigwood Island in mid July. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The island is in a magical location - sheltered from the stronger winds of Georgian Bay by other islands, accessible with our own canoes or kayaks in ~20 minutes from Britt or by ~5 minute motor boat ride, and surrounded by islands waiting to be explored. The main lodge and the 4 cabins were very well appointed with tasteful and functional decor, comfortable beds and bedding, washrooms, lounges and more. The main lodge has an extremely well-equipped kitchen that was a pleasure to use for the chefs in our group. There was not one utensil or dish that could not be found. There were many games to play, and a lovely large veranda that allowed us to eat meals and play games outside even on the one day it rained. There were kayaks, SUP's and canoes, and we brought several of our own, thus everybody had a chance to spend much time playing in the water or just hanging out on the dock. We appreciated seeing mink, sand hill cranes, fox snakes, black bear (next island), rattle snakes, five-lined (blue-tailed) skinks, loons, cormorants and innumerable songbirds. Challenges: There was no hot water in one cabin when we arrived, but the element was quickly replaced, and this was no issue thereafter. This was the first taste of Canadian wilderness for several in our group, and they thoroughly enjoyed the comfort of the cabins while exploring the island on foot and by water. All in all, we had a wonderful week.
