Welcome to fully restored 1970 Charles Morgan sloop "Joss". Although it's decked out as a pirate ship, it's the most intimate place you will find on water in Miami to stay all day and night and enjoy the sound of the waves, the wind, and the sun. The ship is set up with electricity to supply running water in a kitchen galley, and a camp gas stove is ready to help you make romantic dinner. But you don't have to stay indoors, you can use other provided amenities such as the swim platform and the rowing dinghy to get ashore and visit local restaurants, such as a Houstons or Morton Steakhouse with the view of the ship.
the boat is so beautiful on the water at night especially, and Michael was great at communicating everything about the boat! It was also wonderful to have the dinghy to go ashore.
I've never had to leave a review like this. My mother and I were so looking forward to this stay. I was coming down to Miami for a conference, and this looked like a fun alternative to a hotel stay, so I asked my 86-year old mother (who is still in good health but moving slower these days), if she wanted to come with me. And she was delighted! I was a bit nervous about the accommodations and emailed Michael several times to ask about it. I explained to him that I would need to get to shore in the morning for the conference, and asked how long it took, and he told me there was a rowboat that only took about 5 minutes to get to shore. I also would not be able to make the 11:00 check-in time, as I had a meeting the day of check-in in Tampa, and we would be driving the 4-5-1/2 hours after it ended around 1 pm, so we wouldn't be there until early evening, and he said, "OK". However, I got caught in a winter storm in Texas, and my flight the day before was canceled, so after driving through the night in the storm to get to another city to catch the last flight out the following day, I finally made it to Tampa around 10pm that night. Interestingly, at 3pm that day, Michael sent an email asking why I wasn't there yet. I explained to him again that I wouldn't have been there until later anyway, but because of the storm I would now just be getting to Tampa late at night, waking up at 3am the day of the conference, driving in the morning and head straight for the conference, and possibly meet him for check in when the session broke for lunch. When we got there, I didn't have a set time for lunch, but I checked directions from our location to the launch, and it was a 35-minute trip each way according to the direction link on the site. I then went to email this information to Michael, and saw that he had sent me an email saying he would be meeting me at ll, then asking me why I was making him wait all day. I explained, then told him the conference was expected to end around 5pm, so we could be there around 5:30, which he said, "Ok, but no later please, I have a family function to go to. I been waiting since yesterday." Miami has traffic. Our car was parked in a busy garage / valet at the resort where the event was held. Once getting out of the event and taking the mile walk with my mom pushing a wheelchair, there was a line to get our car. I then emailed Michael again to let him know. The remainder of the conversation is below. Michael 5:23 PM Unfortunately I can only ferry you to the boat during the day. It is dangerous to ferry you at night in the dark. The sun will set at 6:07 pm and it's 5:22 and you are still not here. The best I can do is deliver you there when the sun comes up again so that it is safe to go. Tomorrow morning as early as 9 am I can bring you up there Wanda 5:32 PM We’re in the car on the way I don’t have a backup and I would have to leave in the dark!?! Unless you’re going to refund it? Michael 5:35 PM I am not going to refund anything. You have to be here before dark. I am not risking your life and my life just because you don't want to consider another local aiebnb alternative for the night. Tomorrow morning the boat is all yours until your check out on the 6th If you not here before dark next ferry at 9 am Wanda 5:49 PM There are 4 maps telling me 4 different sets of directions from YOUR Airbnb listing. One say 28 mins one says 4 one says 15. Where the hex x am I going?? 168th st?? Michael 5:51 PM You need to call airbnb to work out where you are staying tonight. I already called them and made a report that I will not be risking your life and mine. Tomorrow morning I will take you and you will have 2 full days on the boat Saturday and Sunday Wanda 5:52 PM WHERE IS IT??? My mother is 86 years old Michael 5:52 PM 3770 NE 171st Street North Miami Beach FL 33160 There are a ton of hotels around Wanda 5:53 PM One if these says I’m 4 minutes I’m 9 minutes away Michael 5:53 PM Me I am not going in the water in the dark Wanda 5:53 PM I don’t have money to throw around like that!!!! Michael 5:53 PM Sorry Call Airbnb I tell you what, you can sleep in the car on the parking lot at that address just park at any guest spot Wanda 5:56 PM Ok then how about you give me the damn row boat that you said takes 5 mins to row out and I’ll row us out in the DUSK not the dark. Michael 5:56 PM The row boat is tied to the ship Wanda 5:59 PM We’re 4 mins awsy We’re here ---------------------- End communication between Michael and Wanda via Airbnb I was trying to drive in an unfamiliar city while emailing him, and at the LAST MINUTE Michael decided that he would not take us to the location because it was "too late". That was NEVER communicated as a potential issue, despite numerous emails from me letting him know I was coming in for a conference and I would not be able to make the 11:00 check-in even BEFORE I got caught in the snowstorm in Texas and missed the first day. A business event doesn't mean I would be there before
