Lasalle is surrounded by rivers that offer good and different bathing opportunities. This also applies to the river that runs below our townhouse. The rivers also provide good opportunities for canoeing. There are routes for both amateurs and experienced (or daring). There are two places nearby where it is possible to climb trees and balance on a line between the trees. A visit to the caves at Trabuc is a must. It is exciting and beautiful and a cool alternative to the midday heat. A ride with the old steam locomotive from peak to peak of the mountains is popular for both kids and adults. On the way there is a stop at the Bambousseraie, which is a botanical park with emphasis on bamboos in countless varieties. For the culturally interested, the Cévennes offer two things that one cannot experience elsewhere. One is the Musée de Désert, which deals with the history of the Protestants. Since 1500, the Cevennes have been a Protestant-dominated area (Calvinism). The churches here are called "temples". Every small village has a temple. There are fewer Catholic churches. There is a Silk Museum in the neighboring town of Saint Hyppolite de Fort, which is because the Cevennes area had a large silk industry until the 1950s. In Lasalle there were five or six "Filatures" where the silk thread was formed. All summer, each village has its own special events and parties with pétanque tournaments, common dinners, amusement parks, which all can be a great experience for the visitors to attend.
The house is located in Lasalle, which until 1950 had a considerable production of silk - completely organic - with silkworms living in the mulberry trees.
Lasalle is a typical French village in the south.
Modern life and tourists do not dominate, even in summer time. However, the village is alive and well equipped with the necessary facilities for a small town in the province: restaurants, cafes with petanque, pizzeria, weekly market, supermarket, bakeries, butcher, gasoline garage, hairdresser, pharmacy,- 3-4 doctors and lawyers (hopefully you will not need neither of them).
The nearest airport is Montpellier, which is an hour and a 15-minute drive from Lasalle (75 km). A good alternative is flights to Paris and then the famous French express train, TGV to Nimes, 50 km from Lasalle. Renting a car in France is not as expensive as in Northern Europe. It may be cheaper to book and pay from home, as there may be special rates for foreign tourists. Public traffic from Lasalle to other parts of the area is extremely limited. It is therefore advisable to hire a car from the airport or the train station if you do not come by car yourself. Parking in the street is free. There is parking just outside the house, but not a reserved space.
