Located in the south-east of the andalusian province Almeria, this region is regarded as one of the most beautiful spots at the Spanish coast of the Mediterranean sea. Here is the biggest massif of volcanic origin of Europe's mainland located. Semi-deserts and volcanic mountains stamp the picture. Unique landscapes and biospheres have developed in immediate proximity to the sea. Where somewhere else along the spanish coasts extensive vacation settlements, hotel plants or greenhouse complexes determine the picture, the national park Cabo de Gata forms an exception: Considerate strategies for envirement-friendly travelling make this "cape of the agate" to one of the last refuges at the obstructed coastal line of the Spanish Mediterranean.
Cabo de Gata spoils his visitors with warm winters and long lasting summers. Situated west of the natural park, the Sierra Nevada as a protecting wall keeps away west winds and percipitation. 2.900 hours of sun per annum and approx. 180 mm of year percipitation make Cabo de Gata the driest corner of the continent.

The Sierra del Cabo de Gata, a just 580 m high mountain range of dark volcano rocks crosses the Natural Parc Cabo de Gata from southwest to northeast. The desert backland appears silent and proud. At the coastline wild, steep coastal stripes and bizarre rock formations alternate with isolated bays and kilometers of fine, sandy beaches. They mold the picture of this dramatic and illustrious landscape.
Cabo de Gata is the perfect place for vacations: Hikers find a real paradise in early spring, winter and fall, so will bicycle tourers do. Many endemic plants and an animal realm with a large number of species wait for nature lovers and botanists. Mountainbiker will appreciate the different options of fantastic tours and for divers and snorkelers the region is valid as a sub-water paradise. Last but not least, the beaches and the cristal clear blue sea are a real highlight for sunbathers and swimmers.
