We had 2 great weeks at Mariangela's house. It's a 2-storey house, in which she lives on the ground floor, and guests stay on the 2nd floor (although you can't really tell that it's not 2 completely separate houses were it not for the blocked staircase). The house is spotless clean, fully furnished and very well equipped (probably the best equipped kitchen we have ever rented). Except for an old model oven (which heats and cooks as fast as my own 4-year old fancy convection oven) the kitchen is great: the fridge is charmingly encased in a traditional wooden panels cabinet with a vintage door latch, there's a modern toaster, drip coffee machine and stovetop espresso, microwave oven, dishwasher, and every imaginable utensil. The swimming pool, although not expressly private for you, was 100% for us for the 2 weeks, and it has a fantastic view of the village below and the sea. The garden is huge (the property sits on a few acres of forest), and the lounge area is covered by a large kiwi tree, giving you generous shade all day long (while you can sunbathe by the pool). The road up from the village (a short 3km/10min. uphill drive) is quite comfortable to drive on with any sized car, in spite of being fundamentally a mountain road (there are guardrails the whole way). We drove up and down during the day, the night, and on our way back home after pouring rain without issues. People honk when approaching blind corners which you can clearly hear from the house, but it never bothered us. You can't really hear any significant traffic from the garden or the house. Nights are very quiet. Mariangela is a fantastic host, who gave us excellent tips on what to do and see in and around the area. She's also a talented artist, and you can see some of her own paitings in the house; when I mentioned that my wife paints from time to time, she even brought over an easel and countless oil painting supplies, canvas and paper, in case she wanted to paint during our stay. Can't recommend this property enough. Hint: the house isn't easy to find the first time, as there are no real "addresses" there. On the 2km mark of the road up from Massa, after a small tunnel, there's a fork on the road, and a big sign announcing the hotel at the intersection, called "Settimo Cielo". You must take the road going straight, and NOT turn left, as if you wanted to park at the hotel, but must drive 1 more kilometer.

Hidden gem! We had an absolutely amazing stay at Angela’s place, with perfect view of the city and ocean, while still hidden away up in the hills for total privacy. Angela was such a kind host, told us everything we needed to know about the house, and even gave us recommendations for local eats (trust her, she knows what she is talking about 😉) Hoping to make it back again some time soon.
