Popular wine farms close by. Great for birthday parties, family holidays and other special events. Come experience this special spot, nestled in the Bainskloof Valley. Welcome to the Oaklands Stables accommodation. You can expect basic, rustic but comfortable accommodation with plenty of mountain views and a dam for swimming. Winter brings with it marvels of flowing rivers and an overflowing dam, while summer allows guests to play games on the giant lawn or cool off in the dam. An ideal location for your holiday, or special event. All stables now have closed doors so the winter chill is no longer a problem. There are 20 stables available for guests . The pricing is R8800 per night up to 16 guests and then an additional R450 per person. A discount can be negotiated for a large group or for guests staying for more than one night. • Basic kitchen amenities for 40, kitchen is well equipped. • Lounge and dining area with an indoor fireplace. • Spacious weatherproof area, great for functions. • Large lawn at the centre of the stable block with fire pit and movable barbecue. Please take note that all fires need to be supervised at all times. • You come here to get away from technology. There is WIFI at the stables for calling otherwise you may need to drive off the property to get cellular signal. • No camping vor campervans are allowed unless with previous permission. There is an additional camping fee of R250 per person for the weekend. We accommodate extra guests to camp at the nearby Manor House. This is very basic but a great spot. It has flushing loos and wonderful donkey boilers to supply your bucket showers. • Accessing the farm will take you onto a dirt road that is well maintained but does have some areas that may be affected by rain and small potholes, especially on the municipal road. We recommend driving slowly and carefully. If you are planning on making fires please consider buying wood from our employees Francis and Twanda, there are large bags sold at R50/bag. These are helping with our alien tree clearing initiative. Wood can be arranged before arrival and paid for in cash upon arrival. If you need more information than is in this description you are welcome to message me and I will answer any of your queries.
The only thing we wished to change about our stay was that we had another week to stay! This is one of the most incredible locations - perfect for groups, perfect for children, absolutely stunning. And the accommodation was much nicer than the pictures led one to believe. Liz was very accommodating, helpful and easy to communicate with. We will be back... And this time for longer!!
Wellington is a very popular little wine land town with everything you need, and ideally situated to explore the famous Boland and Swartland wine farms. Many neighbouring farms have restaurants and wine-tasting facilities, and the area is famed for its fantastic hiking, and mountain biking.
Interesting activities in the area I would suggest include:
- Imbuko wine estate in Wellington for a pie and wine pairing
- Extensive walking and mountain-biking trails take you all over the farm. These trails have featured in the Cape Epic Mountain Bike Race.
- Doolhof Estate for lunch and wine tasting (cycle or walk there!)
- Welvanpas for their lovely carrot cake and coffee, meet the direct descendants of Piet Retief (cycle or walk there!).
- Hike up the Bainskloof river (go early, wear hats and sunblock).
- Further afield go to Babylonstoren (amazing gardens and fine dining), Fairview (cheese and wine), Riebeekkasteel (olives), Paarl Spice Route, and many other places of interest
- Shoe shopping at Redemption leather works
To get to farm it's easiest to have a car, and if you have a bicycle, do bring it along. The final seven kilometres of road leading into our farm is gravel, we all drive 2-wheel drives and cope very well on our roads, though you should probably drive a lot slower on the roads than I do! There is a train service from Cape Town to Wellington, which takes about 90 minutes and cab services are also available.
