Casa San Vito, in the centro storico of the beautiful historic town of Irsina, has recently been fully renovated and refurbished to a very high standard. The house, capable of sleeping up to six, has a modern feel to it and features a spacious open plan sitting, dining and kitchen area on the ground floor; two bedrooms and a stunning modern bathroom on the first floor; and a wonderful sunroom and large open terrace with magnificent views over the terracotta roofs and beyond on the top floor. On entering the house from the delightful Largo San Vito you will find the stunning modern kitchen equipped with all the basics, utensils and appliances you will need to prepare gourmet meals. The kitchen has a modern gas stove and electric oven, a large fridge freezer, as well as a dishwasher. There is also access to a beautiful downstairs WC with a basin. Through the open plan arch you enter the very spacious dining room and sitting room area with attractive high ceilings. The modern dining table comfortably seats six. The large lounge area has three and two seater sofas (the three seater sofa also has a comfortable double sofabed which can be easily folded out and away). There is access to a balcony with lovely views out over the square of Largo San Vito. Some beautiful original tile work from the old house has been restored and incorporated in the flooring of the kitchen and lounge areas testefully adding some old to the modern. Upstairs on the first floor are the bedrooms, the first with two single beds and the second with one king-sized bed. The bedrooms have hanging and packing space with wardrobes and a dresser. Both bedrooms open up onto a balcony with lovely views over the square. Also on the first floor is the very impressive modern shared bathroom with large walk-in shower. Some original tile work has been incorporated into the bathroom to complement the modern feel. A washing machine is available in the bathroom. Upstairs, on the top floor, you will discover an amazing sunroom with sliding doors to a very large open terrace. These spaces are ideal for enjoying meals and drinks, or just relaxing while you are captivated by the stunning 360 degrees views over the centro storico and way beyond out to the hills beyond Irsina. A beautifully renovated old property in a small, charming hilltop town - not fancy but cheerful and comfortable. A pleasure to come home to. Very quiet neighborhood. Zero security concerns. Easy on-foot access to stores and restaurants. The perfect base camp for exploring central Basilicata, which is gorgeous - certainly on a par with Toscana and Umbria or other touristy favorites. Christa, the on-site agent for the South African owner, was over-the-top welcoming, helpful, and attentive. There's a rooftop terrace and enclosed room for chilling (or napping) with incredible views. The beds were extremely comfortable. There is nothing shabby anywhere. The welcome booklet was professionally produced with great photos and recommendations - best welcome booklet we've found anywhere in the world. An amazing bargain to say the least. BTW, don't miss Venosa - an ancient city that has it all.

Casa San Vito is a modern oasis in the charming historic cobbled lanes of Irsina. We loved the roof top terrace and could not of expected more from the recently renovated home. Christa and Walter were fantastic hosts and went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Our experience was non-touristy which we valued and the landscapes and nearby sites exceeded our expectations.

had a lovely stay and would love to stay again if ever in the area. The apartment was spacious and had been tastefully renovated so was new and comfortable without loosing it's old Italian charm. Had a beautiful sunny deck where we enjoyed having our breakfast with great views over the old town rooftops and the valley. We were met on arrival, there was great communication and local advice. Exceeded expectation.

We had an amazing stay in the little village of Irsina! Incredible rooftop views! The house had everything we needed and was pristine clean! The hosts were so easy to work with as our travel plans changed. Would recommend this home to everyone. Hope to visit and stay here again. So well done!

Irsina (known as Montepeloso till 1895) retains its old Norman walls, with a labyrinth of narrow cobblestone streets, arches and gateways dating back many thousands of years. Around every corner is a surprise - be it small churches, the large Cathedral, old palazzo, small squares with fountains, cantina still filled with stores of olive oil and wine.
Irsina boasts a good array of traditional Italian bars and cafes and a choice of restaurants all within walking distance of Casa SanVito. Also within walking distance are bakeries, butchers, green grocers, patisseries with that day’s produce, while a number of small shops and supermarkets provide all the basics.
Irsina with its wonderful panoramic views across rolling hills of wheat, its olive groves and vineyards lends itself to walking, hiking and cycling, or to just sitting and admiring.
Exploring beyond Irsina
Irsina and Casa San Vito are ideal for visitors to base themselves to tour much of the south of Italy.
Less than 45 minutes away is Matera, whose Sassi - the caves where people have lived from the dawn of time- and its UNESCO World Heritage Rupestrian churches, were brought to international prominence when the city was chosen in 2019 as European City of Culture. More recently it has been the backdrop to the latest James Bond film, "No time to die ", where its amazing landscape was among the stars on screen.
Irsina is surrounded by many other interesting towns in Basilicata and Puglia, such as Alberobello with its picturesque trulli while the sandy beaches of the Ionian and Adriatic are little more than an hour away, including the delightful Monopoli which also boasts a stunningly beautiful cathedral.
The Lucanian Dolomites offer a range of attractions from skiing when conditions are right to the famous 'Volo dell’Angelo' (Angel’s flight) zip-wire flight, and the 'Ponte alla Luna' (bridge to the moon) a Tibetan-style bridge over a deep ravine.
Basicata and Puglia boast many fine vineyards including those around the defunct volcano near Melfi which can be visited and its red aglianico and primitivo, its whites and sparkling wines can be sampled.

出行信息

Irsina is a little more than an hour from Bari international airport, a little longer to Brindisi (2 hours 15 minutes) and Naples (2 hours 35 minutes). There is public bus and train transport, but renting a car gives greater flexibility. Airport transfers can also be arranged.
