Behind tufts of marram grass and rolling dunes, directly on the beach with stunning panoramic sea views, sits The Sandy Feet Retreat. One of only a few genuine beach houses and holiday homes available to rent on the English coast, the word most used to describe this seaside escape is simply ‘Wow!’
Anderby Creek beach is a true gem, a Narnia, where untouched sands lie as fresh as snow, and vast stretches of marram grass dunes hide an abundance of wildlife. It is one of the greatest tracts of untouched beach wilderness remaining in our country today and one of England's finest and best kept secrets.
Over 10 miles of pristine sand backed by traditional coastal dunes. Stroll, jog, beachcomb, sunbathe, build sandcastles, even ride horses on the beach. Whatever the weather, it is the perfect place to disconnect and take a breather from everyday life.
THE WILDLIFE
The Sandy Feet Retreat is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) within a Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve, a 60 acre haven of wildlife. Spot rabbits hopping past the garden fence, birds of prey scouting the sand dunes, even the occasional frolicking porpoise or dolphin. Five more nature reserves can be found within walking distance, making this a true nature-lovers paradise. During the winter months, thousands of grey seals can also be seen up-close on the nearby beach of Donna Nook, giving birth to their pups.
THE PRIVACY
There's an air of 'endless summer' living on Anderby Creek beach, helped by warmer weather and a relaxed lifestyle, although it's a lovely place all year round, including in winter. Whether it's a BBQ on the terrace, or, if the weather comes in, wine and board games around one of the 2 wood burners, The Sandy Feet Retreat is the perfect seaside retreat. Our location is safe and secluded, away from crowds.
THE BEACH
Put Anderby Creek beach on your bucket-and-spade list. It's one of the UK's best beaches, and regularly features in the press, yet it's virtually unknown. No need to fight crowds of sunbathers or queue for ice creams or car parks either. All the entertainment is at hand on your very own beach, often deserted, and literally on your doorstep (no, we mean... 'literally'). Perfect for free-range kids, beach lovers, watersport and fitness junkies, artists, photographers, walkers etc.
THE OCEAN
Whether paddling, fishing, kayaking, surfing, or just listening to waves lapping the shore, our immediate proximity to the ocean adds to the magic of this special location. If you're feeling brave, a heroic morning plunge into the North Sea is guaranteed to transform you from a groggy mass of city fuddle into a fully awake human-being; splashing, squealing and alive. Dripping on the sand afterwards, tingling all over, the natural high quickly kicks in. Forget the coffee, this is the real deal! In an instant you’ll want to dive back in.
THE BIRD HIDE
The Round & Round House is another contemporary piece of architecture, just 200 metres away, with views out to sea and inland over grazing marsh to the Lincolnshire Wolds. A great place to watch wildlife, especially conservation priority birds... Fieldfares, Oystercatchers, Sanderlings and Shorelarks are just some of the birds which can be spotted... plus swans, ducks, geese, swallows and other large flocks of migrant birds arriving and departing overhead.
THE SUNRISE
Getting up at the crack of dawn might not be everyone's cup of tea, especially on holiday, but watching the upper limb of the sun rise over the ocean horizon from the comfort of your king size bed is a unique and special experience. The house faces due east with uninterrupted views over the North Sea, so the sunrises are epic.
THE NIGHT SKY
Got a telescope? Bring it with you or use the house binos and enjoy some of the best stargazing in the UK. As the human population becomes more urbanised, man-made lights obscure our view of the stars and other celestial features. Not in Anderby Creek though. Far away from human settlement, when the weather is good, stars, planets and the Milky Way shimmer with incredible clarity in clear, dark night skies. Sometimes there are more visible stars than grains of sand on the beach! You may also see chains of SpaceX satellites running vertically over the house, out to sea. Perfectly aligned in formations of 50-60 satellites. Just look up.
THE ORANGE MOON
A new full Moon rises over the North Sea opposite the house every 29.5 days. We hope you're lucky enough to experience this during your stay. The lunar surface is often clearly visible, covered in craters from meteorite strikes. The Moon is also likely to be a brilliant orange colour when it's close to the ocean horizon. That's because you're seeing it through much more of the Earth's atmosphere than when it's high in the sky.
THE ENGLAD COAST PATH
We're a wonderful rambler's retreat too, with some cracking coastal walks. The first Lincolnshire stretch of the England Coast Path is now open, a 16 mile route stretching from Skegness to Mablethorpe. It is part of a planned 2,700 mile path along the entire English coastline by Natural England and passes right in front of The Sandy Feet Retreat. Pick up or download an OS Map and go explore the beautiful countryside, literally on your doorstep.
THE SAND DUNES
The dunes are a wonderful feature of our seaside location, with wild flowers, and even wilder children jumping off them. They began forming in the 13th century and the process continues, as very fine sand is blown off the beach before being stabilised and held in place by native plants. The dune system extends for many miles on both sides of the house.
THE COUD BAR
This place may not serve alcohol but it does offer pretty epic cloud spotting, just 300 metres from the house. Designated the world's first official cloud spotting area by The Cloud Appreciation Society, find cloud menus to help identify clouds, mirrors to reflect the sky and specially designed cloud viewing seats to enjoy the vast open skies of Anderby Creek.
THE NORTH SEA OBSERVATORY
Head onto the beach, turn right and walk for 2 miles to this contemporary piece of architecture and purpose-built marine observatory. Here you'll find information and exhibitions on our area's rich natural history, plus an art space and The Seascape Café serving great breakfasts, freshly brewed tea/coffee, lovely lunches and delicious cakes. They also do supper clubs and yoga here.
THE ANDERBY BEACH CAFE
Delicious breakfasts, home cooked lunches and snacks inc. gluten-free and vegan options, plus a licensed bar, beer garden and outdoor children's play area. Just 400 metres from the house.
THE KITCHEN & BAR (at Popa’s)
Newly refurbished with a licensed bar and extensive menu serving excellent food all day inc. Sunday lunches. Only 600 metres.
There is parking for up to 2 vehicles on site. 4X4 recommended but not essential. Electric vehicle charging point 400-500m from the house in beach car park.
