You are in prime territory if you're looking to be closely connected to the amazing DELKI DOZZI PARK which is about a 3 minute walk away! Our amazing community centre park not only boasts an indoor event space, an outdoor hockey rink, soccer and baseball fields, a community garden (etc) but it ALSO features THE best cycling/walking track in Northern Ontario ... and it's right here in OUR BACKYARD! It's the perfect place to take your dogs for a walk or to let them take out some pent-up energy in one of the maintained fields. A bench overlooking the pond on the track is perfect for enjoying the ducks, fish, songbirds and other wildlife! Bring a picnic and a camera! You can see the Vale (Inco) smokestack from the track. It's especially awesome during the sunset hour.
Speaking of smokestacks, guests of THE EXECUTIVE DOLLHOUSE could not be closer to DYNAMIC EARTH & THE BIG NICKEL if they tried. The bypass to those attractions is connected to Gatchell. It will take you a whole 2 mins to drive there. Don't forget to take in the big DINOSAUR EXHIBIT (ongoing till September), or take the cage elevator down to the mine shaft during a guided tour!
ABOUT GATCHELL:
This old 'west end' area, coined "The Gatch" by many, is a friendly, well-laid out residential neighbourhood that is relatively quiet considering there are many working families, retirees, seniors, and a commercial building at the end of the street. Weekday business hours are notably the busiest with delivery trucks and the odd residential maintenance/construction sounds, as is the case in the burbs in most big cities. We encourage you to 'goog' Delki Dozzi on maps to get a bird's eye view of Gatchell (you can look around to see the layout and the view of the houses nearby). It's not the rich part of town but it's rich in culture. No cookie-cutter models around here. It's your average, old-friend-kinda-feel-neighbourhood with a hidden gem & oasis!
Gatchell is very rich in Italian culture. Proof of this, is the 80 yr old "Caruso Club", just a few kms up the road off Lorne. It is still going strong, featuring the most AMAZING events (ex. Hogwarts, Crystal and Gem shows, holiday special events, fundraisers, weddings, stag & does, and its must-see annual Italian Festival in July), plus tons of tribute concerts throughout the year, not to mention, THE MOST DELICIOUS ITALIAN HOMEMADE FOOD IN THE CITY!! Affordable too. Search FB for "events" and "Caruso Club" and you will be pleasantly surprised.
The Executive Dollhouse is conveniently located within walking distance to DQ, Timmies, Subway, Giacomo's Deli, Cara's Convenience (don't leave without trying some of their fresh baked and lunch items), and Tarini's Meat Market (a bbq is not a bbq without Tarini's meats!). If you're craving a homemade fry, try Miss Maple's chip stand on Douglas at Whittaker. A true Canadian experience!
Super convenient location with a "less than 10-min drive" to Health Sciences North (hospital) and attached Northeastern Ontario Cancer Centre, as well as the big snowflake science centre, "Science North", and beautiful Bell Park on the shores of Lake Ramsey, where events such as Summer Days and the annual Northern Festival Boréal are held. This hub is a true gift in this city.
A 20/30-min walk brings you to Downtown Sudbury and the Sudbury Arena, where you can catch a Sudbury Wolves home game or a major concert. Elton John even played the Sudbury Arena, and so did Liberace! Check out the city's website for upcoming events.
You are only 1-15 mins from ALL SHOPPING, in any direction. Your Independent Grocer on Lorne is just a 2-min drive. Fine dining (gotta try Ali Baba) is as close as a walk away, Costco/Chapters, New Sudbury, the casino, and public beaches, fishing, and beautiful nature trails (check out the Laurentian Conservation trails) are all within 10-15 mins. A trail map is provided and free to keep! There is even a public pool on the next street over! Not that you'll need it in the summer... you'll have your own!
"The Gatch" is super rich in history being one of the first early settler destinations. Those before us (mostly Italians at the time) were hard workers and proud of their homes and properties. That generation has sadly been slowly dwindling, but on occasion, if you're lucky, you will hear some Italian chatter amongst neighbours. That was one of the first things we fell in love with when we purchased our little gem nearly 20 yrs ago! That and the smell of the active Weston bread factory nearby.

There are 4 major arteries in Sudbury that form a square and connects all areas of the city. They are (each with points of interest):

2. Notre Dame Avenue
(Bingo, Value Village, Canada Post, ReStore)
3. The Kingsway
(Car Dealerships, Costco, Home Depot, Cineplex)
4. Barrydowne Road
(New Sudbury Shopping Centre, Scotiabank, Canadian Tire)
Other main arteries include (Falconbridge Road, Paris Street, Regent Street, and nearby Lorne Street).

Getting around Sudbury is relatively easy in our opinion (at least, in comparison with some cities that are super confusing with their 300 one-ways and do-not-enters). If you look on the map included in this listing, you will see how close we are to the Hospital, NEO Cancer Centre, and the University. That section is between Moonglow and Four Corners on the attached map.
Your maps app will take you anywhere you want to go. WE HAVE SUPPLIED YOU WITH A 1-PAGE TOURIST MAP OF THE CITY & AREA (see pull out shelf of the kitchen computer station). It's a great visual. Construction is considered its own season in Sudbury so be especially aware of weekday traffic jams during rush hour around (7-9 am) and (3-6 pm). Some intersections have RED LIGHT CAMS. Also, pay special attention to signs warning you not to turn on certain streets at designated hours. The cams are in 6 pilot intersections to curb the red-light racers, with more being added soon. Big fines. Don't do it. Also, not everyone knows our school bus systems in our country. DO stop for school buses when signals are flashing amber. It's a warning for you to slow down and stop.
Downtown is "paid meter heaven" and no, the bylaw officers don't care if you are their mother. So don't do it.
You can use the e-pay apps at most meters, as well as to pay fines.
There are some bike-friendly paths but they're not everywhere. Sudbury drivers have urgent places to get to. They drive fast and they are on a mission. Be wise. Drive defensively. Watch for Olympic-sized potholes, especially if it's raining because they are hidden under the puddles. Stay in the outside lane if you are not a hindrance in traffic. You might save yourself a car part.
The Sudbury Transit system passes right by our area. The bus stop is about 100 metres away. You can download their app if you plan on bussing it. They accept bicycles! And there are lots of bicycle lanes in the city.
