My homestay is situated in the beautiful & picturesque village of Phyang in Leh district of Ladakh. A village which is working towards the resolution of being an “Organic Village”. Watch us harvesting in the fields & cooking traditional cuisine. We could also take you for a walk around the village , in the beautiful alleys, lined with the traditional Ladakhi houses with beautiful golden large farmlands. We welcome you to our home to be a part of our family & for an authentic Ladakhi experience. At a distance of just around 500 metres from our house lies our farmland where we grow local vegetables and fruits. They are completely organic and without the use of any chemicals. We use the very same vegetables for cooking too. Staying with us, you'd be able to enjoy eating fresh and organically home grown vegetables. You could take a stroll around the farms and help me in the farming activities or you could even just peacefully sit in our verandah and enjoy the serenity amidst the farmlands whilst sipping Ladakh’s famous Gur-Gur chai ( butter chai ) My house is primarily made of stone and wood as seen in most of the homes in Ladakh. This is to endure the cold especially during winters. Guests will have to climb 08 steps to reach our house. You would be able to enjoy views of the vast apple garden of Phyang gompa Monastery from the living room. A heater in the room can also be arranged at an extra cost. Extra mattress will be provided for extra adults. We also have a terrace where one can enjoy the towering view of the entire village, the golden farmlands and the mountains. The view resembles a picture perfect postcard destination. You can take a stroll on the terrace or just sit and enjoy your meals in the open. Bonfires could also be arranged subject to availability and on prior notice. Other areas of the house will be shared with us. We have an attached bathroom cum toilet only in one of the rooms which would be private . The toilet in the attached room is western in style. We heat water on the gas to provide hot water for bathing. We have another bathroom cum toilet that will be shared which has an Indian styled toilet. We also have a separate dry toilet that would be shared too. Dry toilets have been Ladakh’s traditional way of being conscious of the environment. Dry toilets keep water usage at bay. The toilet consists of a small room with a hole in the floor. Earth and ash from the kitchen stove are added, thus aiding chemical decomposition, producing better fertiliser, and eliminating smells. Once a year the latrine is emptied at ground level and the waste is then transported to the fields, where it is used as fertiliser for the upcoming sowing season. Our dry toilets are especially useful in winter months when the water freezes. The kitchen and the living room will be shared too . There’s a TV in the house for your entertainment. The kitchen also has a fridge and you could use it to store your food items. Traditionally, people used to spend most of their time in the kitchen as it is the most heated room in the entire house. It used to be the place for large gatherings. The beauty of the kitchen is the Choktse (low wooden tables) which are used as a dining table and the large well ventilated space with wooden pillars. We consume tap water, but for the guests we can also boil water or arrange for bottled water at an extra cost . We also have a washing machine. You would be served with authentic Ladakhi cuisine for breakfast and dinner. Naming a few of Ladakh’s lip smacking specialities that we often cook. Ladakh is also known for its culture and Ladakhi folk dance. Ladakhi folk dance performances could also be arranged on prior notice and at an extra cost. The network connectivity is good. Prepaid connections do not work here hence guests will have to switch to postpaid before arrival. Airtel has the best network connectivity. Internet connectivity is alright in the area. If required , Indian residents can easily purchase local sim cards by submitting aadhaar card. We speak Ladakhi language at home. I can speak Hindi too. If there are 4 people arriving, 2 rooms would be granted. IF there are 6 people arriving only then all 3 rooms will be provided. The rate includes breakfast. Lunch and dinner can be arranged at an extra cost.
