A lovely little house just about 35 minutes outside of Reykjavik in a beautiful and exclusive summerhouse area. It is snuggled in a circle of mountains making it a perfect spot to enjoy a hot drink by the fire and relax with your friends and family! We are renting out our little jewel of a cottage only 35 minutes from Reykjavík in a beautiful valley in the remarkable Hvalfjordur (Whale Fjord). It is a charming house with a large and well grown garden including a football field, a kid’s playground with swings, sandbox and a slide as well as a balcony accessible from the living room overlooking the garden. The cottage is a family/business project that we renovated to enjoy for ourselves as well as rent out to friendly guests. The interior is designed and decorated by ourselves and our main focus of influence was comfort, charm and cosiness. The house is the perfect getaway for couples, families and a group of friends while the capital and a number of tourist attractions, including the Golden Circle, is only minutes away. The valley where the cottage lies includes beautiful walkways and it seems like the perfect location to shoot some episodes of “The Game of Thrones” with its mountain hugging landscape. Upon entry welcoming you is a pleasant little hallway with a chair, hangers for outerwear as well as a shoe rack. A large mirror makes the area seem more spacious and it is well lit with an old style light fitting and behind the entry door you will find the staircase to the loft. A lovely little bathroom is on your left with a shower, soaps, towels and all amenities. Right across the front door you will find the main bedroom which is furnished and decorated in light and soft tones. The queen size bed is covered with loads of cushions, a warm throw and a lamp but this space is perfect to relax and catch up on a little book read. It has a large cabinet for storage and a rack for the bed cover and throws. Next door we have the second bedroom decorated in darker tones of blacks, greys and greens. It is a very relaxing space and the 120cm bed is a comfortable hangout with all its cushions, throws and bedcovers (see the comfort theme here?) This room is softly lid with lamps creating a relaxed and cosy lighting. A storage in the form of a dresser as well as a rack of hangers plus a bracket for the bed cover. Behind the door you will find a full size mirror and a chair for those loads of pillows. The open kitchen, living, dining family room is combined in one open space with a fireplace, a flat screen TV with a DVD player (and loads of DVD movies at site), Internet access point and a Radio with auxilary input for iPod etc. We also have some board games, deck of cards and puzzles for guests to use at will. The corner sofa is made up of a single bed and is fully functioning as such with removable cushions. Across the sofabed is a comfy chair making the living room a wonderful space around the fireplace to enjoy a relaxed time. The dining table is surrounded with 5 chairs and a bench fitting in total 8-9 people in front of a buffet filled with glasses, dishes, tea lights etc. An open fully equipped kitchen meets the hallway with a refrigerator/freezer, oven with ceramic stoves, a dishwasher, toaster, pots and pans, kitchenware for around 8-10 a shelve with spices and a few other things for cooking that guests are welcome to use as well as a drawer with foils, bags etc., Good storage space is in the form of closed cabinets as well as open shelving. We get major pleasure out of serving food on attractive trays so a variety of plates and saucers are here to be used. We do love our coffee so the kitchen includes a coffeemaker as well as a French press. Of course we also have a water boiler and a variety of tea and hot chocolate powder. On the balcony you will find a BBQ and we encourage you to enjoy the stay, eat loads and have a swell time: That’s what a vacation is for anyways, right? ;) The staircase is behind the main entry door leading to the sloping loft which has half ceiling height. The loft is a favourite space for many whereas it is so very cosy and hugging. Here you will find the third double bed of queen size with a little window overlooking the valley, matching cushions and throws of course. The loft also has another single bed, perfect for one adult or a teenager that doubles as a hang about “sofa” in front of a second TV with a DVD player. In the storage below the TV/DVD you can also find a variety of books in Icelandic and some in English. The storage next to the bed on the loft holds extra bedding. A travel crib with a fitted sheet, an infant sized down pillow and comforter with covers, and a soft blanket can be sorted for guests, simply state you have an infant or a toddler before arrival and we will sort that out for you. Fire extinguisher, first-aid kit, vacuum cleaner, mop, rugs and a small hairdryer are available. Soaps, shampoo, conditioner, shower soap, hand moisturizer, washing liquid, dishwasher detergent and cleaning supplies are available for guests.
