Penponds is a small village just outside the historically important mining town of Camborne, which is listed as a World Heritage Site. The village is quiet and rural with many opportunities for countryside walks, but also close to local amenities such as supermarkets, petrol stations, high street shops, banks, pubs and restaurants. In the village and open to visit during the summer season is the National Trust managed 'Trevithick's Cottage' which was the home of Richard Trevithick, inventor of the steam engine during the industrial revolution. A short walk away is a wooded nature reserve and lake ideal for spotting wildlife, as well as 'The Giant's Quoit', an ancient prehistoric monument and the historic Treslothan Church.
A short drive away is the Heartlands site in Pool which includes landscaped grounds, historic buildings and a large children's playground, all based on the local mining history. Close by is also two preserved mine engine sites and museums managed by The National Trust. The local area was an important centre for mining and industry in the past and is covered with the ruins of old engine houses and workings from this period, most of which can be explored along footpaths and cycleways. The national cycle network passes through Penponds and from here you can access the local Tramway cycle paths which allow you to explore the Cornish countryside and history.

There is no off-road parking at The Annexe but there is free parking available on the road nearby. The village is just a 5 min drive from the main A30 road which allows easy access to many locations and tourist attractions across mid and west Cornwall. Alternatively, it is a 15 min walk into Camborne town centre where there is a main-line train station with regular services to a number of popular towns including St Ives, Penzance, Truro and Falmouth. There is also a bus station offering transport to many other locations. The nearest beaches are at St Ives Bay which is a 10 min drive and provide several miles of sandy beach stretching from the National Trust managed Godrevy Beach with its iconic lighthouse down to the harbour town of Hayle. There are numerous car parks and facilities for beachgoers along this stretch, as well as an expanse of sand dunes specifically important for wildlife.
