Charlie and I enjoy getting to know different people as neighbors, not only as tourists. Ellen has lived and worked abroad in Europe and Latin America at various stages of her life and is fluent in Spanish. Charlie is a history buff and has represented the U.S. government on official trips to Europe, Latin America, and Asia. For both of us, the most enjoyable parts of our work overseas was learning how the world looks from other people's points of view. Ellen loves Old Time, Bluegrass and folk music and would be happy to inform you about local jam sessions, festivals, house concerts, etc., that wouldn’t be available to the general public. She plays hammered dulcimer and guitar, and occasionally performs traditional American music at national parks and historic places. She’d welcome the opportunity to assist in finding a jam session or other event that would plug you into the DC folk community. Charlie is a great hiking trail advisor; if you are interested, he’d be the guy to lead you to the trail head or help you find the best trails to suit your needs. We do a lot of biking in the area and can advise you on that, too.
