We had a great stay - Barrony cottage was the perfect spot for our walking trip, and was lovely and cosy, spotlessly clean and welcoming. Fiona was a fab host, and gave us some helpful information for the local area. Thank you!
Fiona was the perfect host for our stay in the Lakes District; responsive, friendly and super helpful in recommending walks and restaurants in the local area. Barrony Cottage was beautifully presented and very cosy. It’s situated well out of the way of all the hussle and bussle of the central Lakes, yet only a short drive away. Added bonus was the very short walk to Mae’s Tearooms, another lovely place to visit. Would definitely recommend a stay here in Uldale.
We had the loveliest time at Barrony Cottage in Uldale! The cottage was really clean and comfortable with a spacious, extremely well-equipped kitchen/diner and a very cosy lounge with a wood burner. Everything was as described and as per the photos. Fiona provided really good and accurate information and was very responsive. Uldale is the perfect place to stay if you're looking for a rural Cumbrian retreat with great walks nearby, and easy access to Keswick. We will definitely come back!
Lovely cottage. Lovely and warm; very clean and great facilities. Very peaceful; good location.
Uldale is a small village, located in the area known as the Back O' Skiddaw. As well as the famous tearoom and a village tennis court, there are a wide variety of walks on offer nearby. From riverside rambles and peaceful woodland walks to high fells. Serious fell walkers can tackle Skiddaw itself, England's fourth highest mountain. Or why not venture up Binsey, Little Cockup or Great Calva for a fantastic walk rewarded by stunning views. If cycling is more your thing, then there are plenty quieter winding country roads to explore as well as Cycle Route 10.
Approximately a mile along the road is Emily's Black Lion where they have 'Pie Night' on Tuesdays and 'Fish & Chip' night on Fridays.
Though enjoying a peaceful rural setting Bassenthwaite Lake and village are only 3 miles. You will also find the Sun Inn who serve food and open all day.
The famous Lake District Distillery, Wildlife Park and Bassenthwaite Lake Station a Café in a restored railway station with a full size replica steam train on the former Cockermouth to Keswick line.are only 10 mins from the cottage. Keswick is a scenic 11-mile drive away and known as the adventure capital of the North Lakes, sign up for an activity with one of the local adventure companies. Have a go at canoeing, raft building, gyhll scrambling - or try the Via Ferrata at Honister Slate Mine, for the very brave only!
Enjoy a lakeside picnic on the shores of Derwentwater or take a ride on the ever popular launch to enjoy the water from a different perspective. Head to Cockermouth, a charming Georgian market town. Indulge in some retail therapy in the great choice of quirky independent shops or visit Wordsworth House, the birth place poet William Wordsworth, for a spot of culture.
If you have come to the Lakes to hike you can do a different walk from the front door of the cottage each day. The Cumbria Way and Cycle Route 10 are also close by
Parking is where ever you find a space in the village, usually next to the cottage but not over anyone's drive way.
自我介绍
We moved from Edinburgh 21 years ago to live in the South West of Scotland in a beautiful area. I bought Queenshill as we love Edinburgh too and could not lose touch with an amazing City and all of our friends. We love travelling and spend a lot of time in France skiing. We also love the Lake District and always hoped that one day we could have a property there. In December 2020 we found Barrony Cottage! We got the keys and immediately went into lockdown. We spent the next four months renovating, putting in a new kitchen, painting etc and opened our doors in April 2021. We have been almost full since and our guests love the way they can do a walk everyday from the front door. We have been grateful for the wonderful reviews received and the last 12/14 have awarded us 5*
