Blackburn Hamlet has rural areas and several older and newer settlement areas. The lands form part of Ottawa's "Greenbelt" and provide Blackburn Hamlet residents and visitors with over 250 km of hiking and cross-country skiing trails.

Ottawa hosts a variety of annual seasonal activities—such as Winterlude, the largest festival in Canada, and Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill and the surrounding downtown area, as well as Bluesfest, Canadian Tulip Festival, Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival, Ottawa International Jazz Festival, Fringe Festival, Capital Pride, and CityFolk Festival, that have grown to become some of the largest festivals of their kind in the world.
Ottawa has a professional hockey team, the Ottawa Senators, a professional football team, The Ottawa Redblacks, a professional soccer club, Atlético, a professional basketball team, Ottawa Blackjacks, Ottawa, and a professional baseball team, Ottawa Titans.
