Surrounded by beautiful countryside, with easy access to walking and cycling routes the area also has many lakes ideal for fishing, swimming or just sunbathing. Steeped in local history there is much to experience, including about Richard the Lionheart - only 15 mins away is Chateau Montbrun, where he died and a further 10 mins away the town of Chalus, and castle remains where he was shot by an arrow - 5 mins away view the hidden camps of the brave fighters of the resistance of WW2, come walk through the woods see how they lived, please just ask for details.
Coupled with the idyllic countryside and amazing views there is the opportunity to experience many restaurants and interesting places to visit that include the cities of Limoges and Angouleme (both less than an hour away) The closest Airport is Limoges with rail connections to Paris and to the south; with shops, a cinema, museums and a zoo in the area Limoges offers lots to see and do. Angouleme also offers shops, museums, a cathedral and a great café culture, this historic city is on the TGV rail link to Paris which you can get to in approx. 2hrs.
For the walkers step straight from the cottage and access the myriad of chemins and walking routes, all close by or just a short journey away trek around the local lake with its 2 cafes and lovely sandy beach with child friendly swimming area. Cycling is also popular in the area with a great mix of on and off road routes to suit most cycle enthusiasts; indeed, the Tour de France passed through the area just last year (we also have a lockable room for your bikes). Fishing is widespread in the region with numerous lakes just a short trip away (please ask for details on licenses and local access).
