Hi I’m Gen I live on Siquijor, and am there most of the time; Steve my partner travels between Vancouver and Tasmania (for work) and is in Siquijor as often as he can make it. I am a local Visayan Filipina born in eastern Mindanao. We have lived in Siquijor for ~11 years, originally drawn by the island's beauty, variety of outdoor activities and the wonderful hardworking, family oriented local people. The island has changed dramatically in the last decade; certainly not so quiet as it used to be!. Siquijor is a lifestyle island. I am a keen runner, rollerblader and horticulturist / gardener and Steve is a long distance ocean swimmer (swam to Apo Island in 2017...24km and around Siquijor last year - 92km) and mountain biker. When we have spare time we paddle board or spend time with our children at one of the more secluded ‘local’ beaches on Siquijor or go to Senilog Island (ask me!). We also travel a couple of times a year to other Asian and worldwide destinations. Steve is a mineral exploration geologist who has travelled around ‘a bit’ and says that Siquijor ticked many boxes in his ‘ideal island’ category when he was on the look out for a ‘getaway’ place away from the hustle and bustle of Europe / North America. Siquijor is not too disconnected from the outside world but far enough way!. It is also very different from my hectic, quite poor mining hometown of Placer, near Surigao in Mindanao island. Siquijor by contrast is largely a very peaceful, respectful and some consider conservative / traditional island. I am the daughter of a fisherman and amateur horticulturalist mother. My mum and extended family have now moved to Siquijor from Mindanao and we all work hard to make the Airbnb properties comfortable for our guests. I have travelled to most Asian counties, Canada (love skiing now!), South Africa, Uk and other parts of Europe. Each house listed is either owned by a Canadian colleague / friend of ours or is our own and each is set up to enjoy the outdoors and appreciate the views or is nestled among the lush variety of plants that grow in this climate. We live close to Baha Ba’r and you can usually find us at either Baha Ba’r or Republika, at one of our vegetable gardens or at the Fazenda delicatessen opposite. We don’t tend to interact with guests (so please don’t take it personally!) unless we see you at check-in or at Baha Ba’r or Republika. We prefer to give you space, but should you have any concerns or issues pls don't hesitate to drop by either Baha Ba’r or Republika and ask for us. If you require immediate attention please ask for assistance from the cleaning staff or anyone either at the Baha Bar or Republika restaurants. The staff there will only be too happy to assist you.
