Calling all old house lovers & outdoor enthusiasts! Built in 1886, this historic home survived the Diamond Match Company Fire in 1896, and has tons of character & warmth to it. We started bringing it back to life after becoming the new owners in the spring of 2022. Situated within a mile of the stunning shoreline of Lake Superior, this home is also in close proximity to the picturesque Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, snowmobile trail 12, waterfalls, the Ontonagon River and downtown. Welcome to Flintsteel Farmhouse! Our family roots run deep in Ontonagon County and we felt the same about this home as we began digging into its history. Originally built for a family of 9, this home started out as a traditional "foursquare" floorplan. Eventually, there was an addition added, which is the current kitchen and one of our favorite spaces to gather in the home. It is open to natural light, and stocked with the essentials you need to cook a meal or bake a dessert. We provide coffee, tea, a few light snacks, and plenty of room to share food with those that you love. The living room and dining room are open to each other, making it a casual place to eat, entertain, or lay low and watch movies. Through a set of french doors is our parlor room, which is designed for games & music. We have a piano & guitar to enjoy, along with several games to choose from. We typically spend our mornings here drinking coffee, or our evenings drinking tea. From the parlor, we have a foyer leading upstairs to three bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms are furnished with queen beds and there is a third bedroom with a bunk beds. There is also a twin pull out bed in the parlor room in case someone needs to be closer to the bathroom at night. Although we do highly encourage getting out to experience the amazing wilderness in our area, it's also a great place to stay-in and unwind. We hope this space feels comfortable and becomes a home you'll want to return to time and time again.
