While this beautiful cabin is not overlooking the Mississippi River, it does face westward to the New River, a tributary of the good old Moon River! A Moon River View is both an exciting destination, and a relaxing getaway. As you drive up to the large parking area, you'll know this is a very special place. With upper and lower decks on both the front and back of the lodge, there is always the perfect place to enjoy nature. Sunsets to remember- The 2 decks on the front of the house have gorgeous layered, long range views of the mountains to the west. You'll want to make it a daily ritual to watch the sun set between the peaks. There is plenty of space for busy families. The lodge has three levels, and you'll enter on the middle level. There, you'll find the library/music studio as well as the comfortable TV room. Also on this level are a full bathroom and two bedrooms, each with a queen size bed. This level also has a another surprise. On the secluded rear covered deck, a new Jacuzzi hot tub is ready to relax you. As you ascend the stairs to the top level, you'll be thrilled with the high vaulted ceiling and log decor. The large, open great room has been professionally decorated and has an inviting sitting area surrounding a large gas fireplace, large flat screen TV with satellite, and a sound system. The tall windows on the front of the house open onto the upper deck and the long range views beyond, while the secluded rear deck features an outdoor dining area. You'll enjoy the sounds of nature as you cook on the large gas grill on the deck. Just inside, the fully equipped kitchen features new appliances and a beautiful rustic wooden table to enjoy long leisurely meals with family and friends.... but don't forget to go out on the deck to enjoy those sunsets! The top level also includes he master bedroom with a king bed, a full bath, and a half bath. After dinner, you can go down to the bottom level of the house. There, you'll enjoy the new regulation size pool table. There is also a small wet bar with a microwave for late night popcorn. You'll also discover a large flat screen TV equipped with satellite to watch the big game, as well as 3 video game consoles: Playstation 3, Wii, and XBox 360, along with an assortment of games. This level also great for families with kids. It includes a full bathroom, a bedroom with 2 twin beds, and a large bedroom with a queen bed and a queen sleeper-sofa. Life at the lodge is relaxing. In the morning, you'll sit on one of the four decks and watch deer in the woods as you sip your coffee. Looking down, you'll watch the sunshine creep into the valleys below. Later, you'll take a hike upward from the lodge on the fire-break trail that starts from the parking area. Then you'll take a picnic lunch down to the picnic tables and watch the kids enjoy the fully equipped playground area...all on the property. There is even a small hibachi grill in case you want to cook hot dogs on the spot. For the afternoon, you'll have to choose between reading a good book on one of the decks, or learning to play a musical instrument. There is a keyboard and beginner level guitar, mandolin, and banjo hanging on the walls waiting for you to create the Appalachian vibe. If you want more excitement, you can drive 15 minutes into Todd and try tubing or kayaking on the river as well. However, you'll want to make it back to the lodge for that sunset! That evening, you'll want to take the family back down to the playground area and build a fire in the fire pit. You can sit in the chairs around the pit and roast marshmallows, tell ghost stories, and watch the stars until late at night, before you go back in for your nightly billiards challenge. Convenience is important. There are two sets of washer/dryers (one on the top level, one on the bottom level). And if you forgot anything, you're only 20 minutes from Boone with stores and restaurants. Access to the New River, one of the oldest rivers in the world and the only river in North America that flows South to North, is at the Big Hill Community Park just a short drive from the cabin and is perfect for tubing, rafting, fishing, and more. There are outfitters who host rafting and tubing trips, as well as guided fishing trips on the New River (as well as the other nearby rivers). This is a special treat in the spring, summer and fall! Life at "A Moon River View" is relaxing and refreshing. You'll enjoy your stay, and look forward to your next visit! The Story Behind the Name We were always a musical family, some with formal training, and others off us with back-porch training. Therefore, we knew our cabin had to have a musical name, and we wanted something that referenced the New river within walking distance of the cabin (and visible from the front deck in winter). The New River is unique because it's the only major river in North America that flows north. In fact, the New River flows north to the Ohio river, which in turn feeds into the Great Mississippi. Also, the New river is also one of the oldest rivers in the world from a geological standpoint. Therefore, we knew we wanted something timeless, with a connection to the river. We struggled with the name for a while. However, it was not until a late evening family reunion brainstorming session that we finally voted on the name- "A Moon River View". The song, "Moon River" is from the movie, "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and references expanded horizons. The haunting melody and lyrics of the song celebrate the timelessness of the river, just as we felt time seemed to stop when we were at the cabin. Consequently, to commemorate the name, there will always be musical instruments in the cabin, some sheet music to "Moon River" and several stopped antique clocks (because we never bother to put batteries in them). We hope time stops for our guests as well. - Dave & Dottie, homeowners Additional Notes: - All BRMR homes offer well stocked kitchens with all utensils needed to cook meals. House was huge and comfy. Absolutely amazing views! Kitchen was well stocked and we loved using the pool table. Ride up the mountain steep and curvy but worth it!
We had a group of 6 people for a kid free weekend. The home has beautiful views and plenty of space. The amenities were great and we were provided with enough soaps and detergents for our 3 day stay. The hot tub is huge and the view from the hot tub was great in the winter. Id imagine it wouldn't be so great during the summer bc of the trees. The kitchen is fully stocked. I think I even saw a crockpot in there. You should not need to bring anything from home to cook with..period. Some things to prepare yourself for: The kitchen is on the top floor, as is the king bedroom. You will have to walk up a flight of stairs with your groceries. The basement was a fun hangout spot for us bc of the awesome cooler provided to keep you from having to walk up 2 flights of stairs to the kitchen and the pool table. The top floor is beautiful but the house is a little dated. We enjoyed our time there and would recommend without hesitation for anyone who can climb stairs with no issue.
We enjoyed our family weekend here very much! The hot tub was clean and easy to use and a big reason we picked this location! The pool table was also a fun amenity. Overall the cleanliness was good and they had most everything needed for an enjoyable stay. The only thing that might have been helpful was a few more bath towels and dishwasher pods, but if you know to bring those then it’s no problem! Definitely would recommend 4 wheel drive if it’s even slightly wintery weather. As the owner recommended, don’t follow the GPS, but they give excellent driving instructions to replace those—an additional map might be helpful as well. Great amount of space for our family (6 adults & 4 kids). We would definitely stay again and enjoyed our stay very much!
