ENJOY A PEACEFUL & RESTORATIVE WEEKEND BY THE SEA. BOOK A FRIDAY-SUNDAY STAY AND ARRIVE FROM 3 PM ON FRIDAY AND DEPART ANY TIME BEFORE 3 PM ON SUNDAY. Tucked away on a quiet shingle track, amongst an eclectic mix of homes, is this stylish seaside cottage. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with a vast uncrowded beach and only 2 miles from the enchanting, medieval town of Rye. Seakale Cottage is arranged over three floors, comfortably accommodating up to 6 guests. The cottage is dog-friendly and up to two dogs are very welcome to stay free of charge. The property has been decorated in keeping with its coastal setting. On cooler nights, simply throw a few logs in the wood burner for that cosy cottage feel. White-washed floors and plantation shutters add to the 'beach house' feel, together with far-reaching views of the nature reserve, river, and sea. The living area is open-plan with a wood-burning stove. Adjoining this is a dining area with seating for 6 guests and doors that lead out to the garden. Alongside the dining area is a well-equipped kitchen. The kitchen is a small but efficient space with all the appliances you would need. On the first floor is the master bedroom with a king-sized bed, double wardrobe and chest of drawers. On the same floor is a family-sized bathroom with marble-topped twin sinks and a spacious bath with an overhead shower. On the top floor are two twin bedrooms, with two single beds in each room, one with a blackout blind, making it ideal for young children. Both bedrooms have a chest of drawers and hanging pegs/space. There is a pressure-fitting stairgate available, should you wish to put this across one of the bedroom door frames, to keep little ones safe during the night. To the rear of the cottage is a long, enclosed private garden that is child/dog-friendly, with an outside tap and hosepipe for washing muddy/sandy paws. There is outdoor furniture seating up to 6 adults and a Weber charcoal BBQ. Attached to Seakale is a lockable barn providing plenty of storage for bikes or sporting equipment, such as a windsurfer. 'FOR THE 'LITTLE PEOPLE' I have tried to think of everything to make a stay with little ones as easy and child-friendly as possible. You will find 2 travel cots, 2 stairgates, bed rail, highchair, booster seat, plastic cups, plates & cutlery, fireguard, toddler step, toilet training seat, potty, and anti-slip bath mats, perfect for weekend visits when you want to travel light. PLEASE NOTE: The staircases at Seakale are wooden and we are unable to fit a stair gate at the top of the first staircase due to the design of the staircase. There is a pressure-fitting gate fixed at the ground floor level and an additional pressure-fitting gate available to fit across a bedroom door for night-time safety. PARKING: There is parking for 1 car on a private shingle area in front of the attached barn. For additional vehicles, there is free parking available on the main village street, which is just a short walk away and also in the large free car park adjacent to the nature reserve. PLEASE NOTE: The property may not be suitable for elderly or infirm guests, due to the wooden staircases, a small step from the dining area into the kitchen, and access to the shower, which is over a spacious, deep bath. Tram Road leads into a short section of unmade, shingle road, before reaching Seakale. The cottage can be accessed by driving very slowly through this section, especially during wet weather, when there will be surface water. This might not be suitable for very low vehicles. Seakale Cottage is located in the peaceful village of Rye Harbour, close to a nature reserve and beach. There is a well-stocked village store and a popular pub and cafe. The medieval town of Rye is just a short distance away, with atmospheric cobbled streets and an array of interesting shops and eateries, most of which are dog-friendly.
Jane was wonderful. She made contact with us early, gave clear instructions and responded quickly to emails. The house was beautiful with a well stocked kitchen. I love gardens and the garden was lovely. It was a peaceful outside haven. Rye harbour is fantastic. We had dinner at the William the Conqueror pub; I had prawns which were yummy! On Sunday we had breakfast at Bosun’s Bite. Again a yummy treat. We had lovely walks and made a visit to the RNLI shop.
We loved every bit about our stay at Seakale. The cottage is so peaceful and has so many great walks to be enjoyed. The house is very well equipped and tastefully decorated in an attractive seaside style. Plenty of outdoor secure space for our dog too. Very highly recommended!
Lovely little place, well suited to our party of humans and furry friend. Well presented. Clean, tidy and had everything we needed. Close to well stocked local shop, fab pub and harbour walk. You need to drive to get anywhere else, or you can hop onto the local bus to get into Rye town. Lovely host who was v speedy with communication.
We had a lovely stay. The cottage was very good with everything we needed and in a very nice area.
We loved our stay at Sea Kale. The house is really well equipped - lovely towels and bed linen. The back of the house gets the most beautiful light. We sat out in the garden as the weather was nice. The pub and Nature Reserve are round the corner. Thank you for letting us visit this lovely little corner of the world !
Rye Harbour is a working harbour located close to the estuary of the River Rother with an active fishing fleet. It’s not a picture-postcard village designed for tourists, but an established, friendly community of fishermen, artisans and labourers, in which many generations have lived all their lives. The village consists of a mixture of weather-boarded properties, period cottages and tumbledown seaside dwellings, surrounded by a marshy, watery landscape. Tram Road is an unmade shingle track with a hotchpotch of new and ramshackle properties, giving a distinctly bohemian feel to the area. There is a real ‘get away from it all’ feeling here, perfect for those wanting to escape the crowds at nearby Camber Sands. Seakale is nestled at the far end of Tram Road on a separate grassy track. It’s incredibly peaceful and most often the only sound you will hear is the cries of the gulls.
The village has a great a local pub (reduced opening times during winter Mon-Thur) a cafes and a local art gallery. It’s ideal for a walking holiday and you’ll be spoilt for choice by the sheer range of walks and cycle routes that can be taken directly from the front door.
These coastal flatlands make an ideal base for a holiday with dogs. There are literally miles of flat, dog-friendly footpaths, where dogs can explore off-lead for hours. The Romney Marshes provide an endless variety of walks as well as a choice of uncrowded beaches, where they will enjoy racing across the vast expanses of shingle and sand at low tide. At the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, there are paths endlessly criss-crossing in the directions of Rye, Camber Castle, Winchelsea and the beach, which has no seasonal dog restrictions. Most of the popular pubs and cafes are very dog-friendly too, allowing your dog to dine inside with his/her family.
Seakale Cottage is 2 miles from the medieval town of Rye and is walkable on foot. There is also a regular bus service from Rye Harbour to Rye town (until 5pm during the winter months) and numerous taxi services.
自我介绍
I've been hosting guests at Seakale Cottage since 2013 and over the years I have loved exploring the area with our three sons and two dogs! Our boys are gradually leaving home now and I love nothing more than walking my dogs in our local countryside and spending time with family and friends. We have recently (2023) moved closer to Rye and have loved spending warm summer evenings exploring its cobbled streets and local eateries.
