Taganga is a district of the city of Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia. It has a fishing tradition dating back to pre-Colonial times and a tourism tradition dating from around the 1960s.
It is a bay surrounded by mountains located between the Santa Marta Bay and the Tayrona National Natural Park.
It is also part of the Coastal Environmental Unit of the Northern Slope of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (UAC-VNSNSM), which extends from the mouth of the Ranchería River (La Guajira department) to the mouth of the Córdoba River in Ciénaga (Magdalena department), with the Caribbean Sea to the north and the mountain range of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta to the south (INVEMAR, 2008).
Where is Taganga located?
This beautiful place is just 15 minutes from Santa Marta, starting from the Historic Center of the city. To get there, you have two options: the first option is faster, taking a taxi that costs approximately $15,000 COP. The second option is to take a bus that passes along Carrera 5 in the Historic Center; it has a sign that says 'Kra 11 Taganga' and costs $2,300 COP.
Taganga is one of the must-do things when you come to Santa Marta. Here, it seems like time stands still, and perhaps its charm lies in that. It's a town where there are no traces of industrialization; there are no big hotel chains or restaurant franchises. Everything is artisanal.
What to do in Taganga?
In Taganga, you don't go to do anything. This is not literal, so don't worry. I say this because Taganga invites you to do this: nothing. As I mentioned before, lying in the sand, listening to the waves, and letting time pass without worrying about anything else but existing.
But just so you know, because Taganga is a coastal town, all its activities revolve around the sea. That's why one of the favorite activities is snorkeling or diving in its beautiful beaches surrounding the area. It's also possible to take a boat to Playa Cristal from Taganga or hike to Playa Grande through an ecological trail that cuts through the mountains, offering a beautiful view of the town.

If you enjoy nightlife, Taganga offers good options for nightclubs and bars to dance or simply sit and enjoy a cocktail and a good time with your friends. The same goes for dining; if you want to eat in Taganga, there are excellent options to enjoy a good artisanal meal.
Another delicious plan to do in Taganga, and my favorite, is to sit in one of the beachfront restaurant-bars, order something to eat and drink, enjoy the good music they play, and around 5:45 pm, admire one of the best sunsets that Santa Marta has to offer.
Upon arrival, you can feel the Caribbean atmosphere in its streets and the smell of sea salt. Additionally, you'll find restaurants with the sole purpose of delighting you with delicious dishes, where seafood takes the spotlight, all by the seaside while gazing at the charming sunsets on its lovely beaches.
Taganga is a charming place with a beautiful and tranquil bay, ideal for diving or snorkeling. From the building located on one of the nearby mountains, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the bay. Moreover, there are many other attractions to enjoy in Taganga, such as the famous Playa Grande, where you can experience the coastal life of fishermen and their artisanal fishing techniques. There are also nude beaches that are a great attraction for foreign tourists.
For diving enthusiasts, Taganga is a perfect destination, as it has specialized centers for teaching and the necessary equipment for dives. Furthermore, Taganga's privileged location, bordering the spectacular Tayrona Natural National Park, allows for excursions by sea or land, such as trekking to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
Visitors can also enjoy Taganga's delicious cuisine, offering a variety of exquisite seafood dishes, such as fish with coconut rice and patacones, seafood cocktails, lobsters, and seafood specialties.

The property is located on the main road leading to Taganga. Right in front of the property, you can take a bus or a taxi that will take you to Santa Marta. Just a two-minute walk from the property, you will reach the beach, where you will find a variety of bars, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets, and pharmacies.
On the same beach, on the main street, you will also find tourist agencies and boats that will take you to other nearby beaches.
