Please Read "The Space" Our home is special and different from most mountain homes. It is a living museum in honor of our dad, Richard B. (Dick) Schnedl, who was a renowned architect from the Southern Pines/Bald Head Island areas of NC. His style influenced the design of this house. (The house, itself, was designed by Richard B. (Burke) Schnedl, Jr. , integrating many of our dad's design concepts. It was a collaborative effort, putting ideas from all family members into the project). Frank Lloyd Wright lectured many of our dad’s architectural classes at NC State; Mr. Wright's sense of style impacted dad and is witnessed by all of the woodworking projects gracing our home. Dad designed and built most of the lamps/sconces/dining table fixtures etc. in the house. Given the background of our home, we ask that you take a little extra precaution with all the woodworking items as they are one-of-a-kind, and hope that you will enjoy this unique house. Please NO SMOKING or bringing cigarette butts in the house. This is not a party house but a house for serenity and relaxation. Please treat it as you would your very own priceless home.
Ann and Burke are absolutely wonderful hosts with a wonderful home. This is the 2nd time my family and I have stayed with them and both times were very enjoyable. They are very responsive and make sure you feel comfortable without messaging you too much.
This cabin rental is a beautiful home. It is very large and can easily accommodate two families and it is beautifully and tastefully decorated. It has a fully stocked kitchen with a huge island and the best part about the kitchen is that when you are cooking in the kitchen, you have a beautiful view of the mountain range in front of you. The whole house is very bright and full of windows and glass doors which allow you to see the beautiful mountain views from every single room in the house. It is so peaceful and quiet and relaxing being the only house on the mountain top with no neighbors in sight. The house was very clean and had an abundance of linens and towels and all sorts of complimentary toiletries, including travel size shampoo, conditioner, razor and shaving cream and toothbrush and toothpaste. The hosts have clearly thought of every convenience and little detail to make your stay as comfortable as possible. One of our favorite rentals. Would love to return in the fall.
Our family throughly enjoyed the home and the location. It is peaceful and private with wonderful views. Ann and Burke are very helpful and responsive. We will definitely stay here more as we visit the mountains.
Our family stayed at this amazing home for 5 days. We come to the mountains every year. We brought my son and two friends. The home is everything and more than the listing says. As soon as you walk in you see the outstanding views from almost every room. The inside of the house is tastefully decorated so even if it rains you can still enjoy. While cooking or relaxing in the living room you can still take in the beauty. The balcony extends on the entire one side of the house. I loved waking up in the morning and having the bedroom view although as soon as we got up we wanted to sit on the amazing balcony. The kitchen was very clean and super organized with quality appliances. Everything worked. My only suggestion would be to stock up on food because when you get there you wont want to leave every day to shop. We were sad to leave but hope to come back again soon! P.s Also , make sure to read the owners info on The roads. Some areas are steep and you need the proper vehicle.
This place is truly a hidden gem. Amazing location with really well designed home. This was the perfect place to get away for a few days but they still have great internet so could work remotely and take calls when needed. Shops and lots t do a short drive away. Will definitely be coming back.
There are two distinct sections in our neighborhood. Alpine Village is along Long Branch Trail, and Alpine Mountain is along Pine Tree Rd, Skyline Rd and Mine Cove Rd.
We have a steep driveway and most of the roads are gravel and not paved. All Wheel Drive or 4-Wheel Drive vehicles are recommended to make the steep incline. Front Wheel Drive vehicles are acceptable. Rear Wheel Drive(Only) Pickup Trucks are not recommended, as they don't have enough weight over the rear axle, and tend to rut the driveway. Roads are cleared and smoothed frequently by our road maintenance. Also on our property is a small driveway leading to a shed at the end. To the right, you will see a long dirt road that leads to an abandoned cave/mine on the lower section of our property. (Please, however, enter at your own risk, as the mine is not maintained by the family). This area was once very active in mining; there were many uses for the mica/plagioclase that was found inside the mines. Visit Emerald Mines and the museum, just a few minutes away, for more fun facts about the mining industry and the many caves/mines located all around the area.

Family is a blessing to treasure and I certainly treasure mine! I have a wonderful husband and son; I also have my mom living with us...she's 93 and a real firecracker! With red hair as well!!! I have a wonderful Beagle named Milo and my mom has her dog, Fern. I love the outdoors, the mountains/beach, football (Go Phins!), bike riding and all kinds of animals. Life is good!
