A lovely cottage and great base to explore the area. Despite being next to the main road, it’s so peaceful and quiet. Lots of great walking suggestions and places to visit. Highlights for us were The Big Burn Walk in Golspie, a circuit around Helmsdale, John O’Groats to the Duncansby Stacks and the beach at Berriedale crossing the shonky footbridge! The River Bothy cafe is a delight and the helpful staff were happy with to make sandwiches early for us to take away on our walking trips. Ethel’s Cottage was the perfect place to relax after our days out with the dog.

We loved our stay at Ethel's. Enjoying the luxury of the cottage in this beautiful spectaculair valley. Clean and comfortable. We felt very welcome thanx to Alexa and Judith. The coffee and cake at The Riverbothy are just out of this world...

A tastefully modernised character cottage. Warm, comfortable and well equipped. Very clean with a great shower, super comfortable bed and lovely linens. A peaceful and private spot despite its proximity to the A9. Both the beach and the excellent cafe are just a short walk away. The Spar at Dunbeath is very well stocked even though it appears to be tiny from the outside.

We had a wonderful stay at Ethel's Cottage. The cottage itself was beautiful, clean and cosy with a lovely log stove to keep warm in the evenings. The surroundings were absolutely stunning - we enjoyed visiting the Badbea clearance village and local brochs. The local River Bothy cafe was an absolute treat and right on the cottage doorstep. All in all, a wonderful holiday and we would be keen to visit again!

Ethel's Cottage is a home from home! So quaint and beautiful. The house is pristine with the most comfortable bed ever! The setting is stunning, with a beautiful bay to wander down too. A special mention to River Bothy Cafe which is a delight. They have the most outstanding cake selection. A must if you stay at the cottage! If you get clear skies, it's great to sit on the doorstep gazing up with a cup of tea!
