We are located on a 2.75 acre homestead property just south of Albuquerque in a small agricultural community. It is a perfect retreat space for those looking to get away but stay close to amenities. We live in an 1890 adobe home that shares the property with the casita. We have a handful of fruit trees, a hoop house where we are growing vegetables, and a wild 1 acre field. The property is fully fenced with private parking right outside the casita. This round shaped casita gives the space a unique, yurt and retreat-like feel. Inside you'll find high ceilings and an open concept floor plan, both making it feel spacious. The casita has a full kitchen with stove, refrigerator, microwave and all the cookware you would need if you're inspired to cook a meal(s) here. You'll also find a coffee maker, a pour-over coffee maker, as well as an electric kettle. We provide an assortment of tea and coffee to make your morning a little more enjoyable. Most properties in the neighborhood have septic systems and wells for residential use and ours is no exception. We provide a faucet filtered water system for guests so there's no need to buy/bring bottled water and we make efforts to use and provide eco-friendly household supplies in this space. There are several places to sit and get cozy with a book or laptop. We don't keep a TV in the casita so if you prefer to settle down to watch something on a device, we provide high speed internet (download speeds of ~928 Mbps and upload speeds of ~48 Mbps). These speeds also make it easy to hop on a Zoom call if you need to get work done while staying here. There's a comfy memory foam queen sized bed so this space is ideal for one person or a couple. We are happy to accomodate pet(s) (we're dog people!) but we do charge a one-time fee and do expect pet owners to be respectful of the space and pick up after them. We will provide compostable poop bags for you if you forget yours. That being said, if you have pet allergies, this may not be the place for you. We take pride in keeping the space spic-and-span however, pet hairs have a tendency to hide so we'd hate for you to be uncomfortable if you are sensitive. The casita has radiant floor heating and keeps the space warm in the winters. Like a lot of houses in the southwest, we have an evaporative cooling system (swamp cooler) that cools the space in the summer. The neighborhood is relatively quiet and if you enjoy taking walks, there's a dirt irrigation ditch road close by which is shaded by old cottonwood trees so it's pleasant to take a stroll on a hot, summer day. If you walk north on the road, you'll see and meet the neighborhood peacocks! There's at least 40 peacocks and peahens that primarily reside on a property adjacent to the irrigation ditch. You'll most likely see them walking around that property, up in trees, and sometimes jumping across the irrigation ditch right in front of you. You can hear them from our property so if you hear what sounds like a cat screeching at dawn or dusk, that is them! If you wonder into the neighborhood west of us, you'll observe horses, goats, donkeys, and cows. And if you're lucky, baby goats and cows ;) Sandhill cranes fly overhead and sometime land in our field during migration season. It's a special sight to see!
Great place to stay. We were told by many not to stay in Albuquerque. That it’s gotten pretty rough especially when you don’t know the area so we decided to look for an Airbnb. Not to mention we had a 160 pd Great Dane with us. Most hotels have a weight limit. It was great being able to let him out and walk around. It was a very quick visit as we were moving to Az but I would definitely stay there again. The only thing I would say is there is no tv but it was fine for us.
This was a great stay! I wish we had planned for a few more nights at Kara’s place because it was so comfortable and relaxing. We stopped overnight in the middle of a camping roadtrip and the clean, quiet space with a hot shower and amazing bed was exactly what we needed! I’ll definitely be staying here next time I’m in town.
This spot is perfect for some respite. The location is quiet and peaceful. Kara and Lynda are very friendly and really care for the property
Quiet residential area with large lots. We are just off the main road that connects Los Lunas, Isleta Pueblo and Albuquerque. Close to the Rio Grande river where you will see lots of huge cottonwood trees and greenery. Our community uses an ancient irrigation system that diverts water to farms from the river. One of these main waterways is a 2 minute walk from our house and has shaded trails that go for many miles. You are likely to spot water birds, peacocks, horses and other farm animals in the area.
It is recommended that you have a car or your own transportation to and from our property as public transportation is not avaliable.
